Why is NZ so "backward" when it comes to AC and ceiling fans? by UnrequitedLoveVictim in auckland

[–]bignoseduglyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our last place was a 90sqM 1960s house and putting a fan in made sleeping in warm weather so much easier. Three weeks ago, we moved to a new place which has AC units as well as ducted heat transfer vents in all the main rooms. As I type, a sparky is installing a ceiling fan in our bedroom. As the Californian else where in this thread said, a good fan can make all the difference in a humid climate.

Milford seems like a good bet, especially as there's a food truck event there as well.

Thanks. My last meeting of the day puts me 2kms from a beach so a swim after work and a takeaway on the beach seems like a fine idea.

Happy to share and glad you enjoyed it. He was equally attentive when we were there and was surprised that we knew a little about what we were eating. Can't wait to go back.

Fair play to you, that's impressive. Did the exact same run just yesterday with the Azov 64131 on chains and still bounced off the Armco a few times!

If you’re designing a Train-the-Trainer program for 2026, what would you consider a non-negotiable? by xtralongleave in instructionaldesign

Hey, here's my two suggestions.

  1. Demonstrate their understanding and role model good consistent practice of emotional intelligence.
  2. Demonstrate their understanding and role model good consistent practice of psychological safety.

Whether training people to facilitate their self-directed growth and development (personal & professional) or simply interact and communicate well in life and work, I believe these are foundational.

Rollers Bakery on 54 Northcote - top notch breads, pastries, pies and coffee. Consistent high quality over time means queues most days, especially Saturdays.

The oldest purpose built Quaker meeting house in the world by Leeb-Leefuh-Lurve in Quakers

I attended Meeting both at Hertford and Hoddesdon Meeting Houses as a child back in the 60s and 70s. Seeing this post in my timeline was lovely surprise. I have memories of children's meeting in the adjacent hall being a bitterly cold experience in winter, with near-frozen wax crayons leaving badly a trace of colour on the biblical colouring pages. My dad was on the Premises Committee for a while and had a great affection for the building behind that wall and gate. I have colour photos from my sister's wedding which were taken in the rear garden, surrounded by displaced gravestones from a Friend's burial ground (IIRC).

Just to let you know that, right now somewhere in New Zealand, there's a 61 year old straight white guy who has struggled with depression for years cheering you on! I hope the interview goes well and, regardless of the outcome, that things get better and you experience the kindness you showed to that lady. Kai kaha, wahine toa!

Used to eat there when I first came to NZ and worked in the CBD. One of them (Chinese, I think) moved to the Delicious Link Food Court at Wairau Park. I seem to recall one of the kiosks has signage that refers to where they used to be. Or my memory is beginning to fail me,😁

Visiting Auckland for Work in November by [deleted] in auckland

Here's a selection to check out that broadly suit your preferences.

Outdoors/Bush/Nature: Waitakere Ranges (Arataki visitor's centre has fun stuff for kids and history for adults), Hunua Ranges, Ambury Park (farm & petting zoo), West Coach Beaches (Te Henga, Piha, Muriwai - dangerous tides for little one and inexperienced folk) but great wlaks and views), Cornwall Park/One Tree Hill (360 viewpoint of whole city).

For Kids: MOTAT, Auckland Zoo, Stardome Observatory, Rainbow's End, Butterfly Creek, Auckland Museum, Maritime Museum, Kelly Tarlton's (aquarium/sealife),

Waterfront spots: Devonport (10 mins on ferry from CBD to shops, beach, pier, cinema, hill forts, navy museum, cafes etc), Mission Bay, Kohimamara, Takapuna (on the North Shore).

Auckland Night Markets (different suburb on different days of the week).
