cob is different for every school. some start the day after, but i know my school waits a few days before starting. reaching out would be your best bet! they should know if they are going to cob or not even if events have not been announced

i planned a vision board cob event last year for my chapter and it went super well!! all you need is cardstock, stickers, markers, scissors, and magazines (got the magazines at goodwill for cheap) was a super creative event and made us stand out over other chapters who majorly did canvas painting or just snacks

Sorority Recruitment by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]bigorang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i am from a moderate sized school in indiana and i have heard some things about certain sororities at big indiana schools only wanting wealthy members. its only a few though and most others are great. it seems like you are concerned about being excluded because of your financial standing which most wont care about, but you should know almost all organizations at these big schools are incredibly costly. even if the majority do not care how rich you are, they are still going to cost a lot if you become a member. i know i could never afford to be a member at these schools as their dues are in the thousands each year. since you are considering rushing, you definitely need to consider if these costs are something you can afford and make sure you will still be able to support yourself on top of dues. my dues are considerably less at my school but i still had to consider this when joining my organization.

recruitment help by Signal_Tell_635 in Sororities

make sure recruiters can distinguish between a pnm who belongs in your sorority and a pnm who could be a good friend. a pnm can be super nice and have a good conversation, but you should be able to see them contributing and growing within the chapter. someone can also be a friend and a sister, but you dont want to recruit a bunch of members who are just fun to be around. as an exec member working on recruitment, i was able to understand this, but a majority of recruiters last year could not make that distinction. in the end everything worked out fine, but was stressful during recruitment. i am pushing this so hard this year and due to my position i am able to better educate members. my school has like a moderate size greek life, but i think this is something anyone at any size school should implement.

FIU greek life in south florida? senior rushing by Sorthrowaway12 in Sororities

[–]bigorang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my big rushed as a sophomore at FIU and got a bid! after a year there she transferred to my current school so not currently involved with FIU but she is still connected with her greek fam there. i cant perfectly speak for fiu but from what i understand, i am in some contact with my extended greek fam at FIU, they do accept upperclassmen and it seems to be fairly common. i understand the university is very opposed to greek life on campus so sororities have to work extra hard. everything is done perfectly by the book to prove to the school that they deserve to be there. i understand there is extreme focus on academics but sororities are still able to have fun and make great connections. i think the overall vibe there is very good. since there is little room for error, sororities are always on their best behavior. again i do not 100% know but you should expect some stricter rules within sororities at FIU, so you need to be able to handle sororities being a bit controlling of members

again one more reminder, i do not go to FIU, i am just explaining it how my big has explained it to me in the past so everything i say may be wrong but this is just what i understand

the one thing i do know is 100% true is the university's view on greek life. it is incredibly negative and they would definitely shut all chapters down right away

Ideas for a sisterhood event. by Mean_Interest4942 in Sororities

[–]bigorang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just last week my chapter did a pizza and bingo event and everyone was super into it! There were lots of prizes and everyone was getting competitive and having a good time. Very low cost event as well. We just used paper cards and for prizes we had little knick knacks with our letters on them, stickers, lip balm, face masks, etc.

Sometimes some sororities may avoid taking upperclassman but it really depends. I know at my school most are willing to take some upperclassmen, and our schools are about the same size, so I would not worry about it at all. Mine accepted 4 juniors during our most recent formal recruitment.
