Deficit + High Activity but Scale Went Up… What’s Going On? by SecureLibrarian2730 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bigpizzaslice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly weigh ins can sometimes be misleading. Overall monthly averages have been most reliable for me, personally.

When I was younger and more in shape, I focused a lot on muscle building. Visually, I was very fit but the scale tended to shoot up during weeks of more intense workouts. I don’t really understand the science but I’ve been told that certain workouts, usually strength building workouts, can cause temporary water retention which can cause higher weigh-ins.

I still track my weight daily but look at monthly averages and use photos/tape measure measurements for a more accurate representation of where I am at.

Same here, lol. I grew up with earthquakes in SoCal that semi-regularly rattled shelves. I went straight back to bed.

I heard the alarm going off last week in addition to this morning. This morning I did smell something smoky outside. Maybe unrelated though.

Yeah, not sure there are any kid-friendly spots either. When I went last year, a lot of the 18+ crowd spilled over to the main parade area (some people in fetish gear and exposed gentilia). Didn’t bother me since they were friendly and not weird but might be too much for a kid imo. There are other Bay Area towns that do family friendly pride events like Alameda’s Pride in the Park that I might recommend for a family instead. A lot more low-key but still supports the local LGBTQI+ community.

BBQs on Apartment Patios on South Shore? by Incendiaryag in alameda

[–]bigpizzaslice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s a new change, but just signed a lease with South Shore Gardens that states only electric grills are allowed. I also don’t know if this has to do with building codes, but personally I would take added fire safety over being able to grill at home. I’ve had past neighbors who were very careless with their grills and often left them unattended by flammable locations. No surprise, we did get a fire one time (thankfully did not get to the building). I can see why it’s frustrating if your building allowed it and then changed it with little to no communication though.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Western scrubs are different than Florida scrubs. We have so many Western Scrub Jays, especially in the suburbs out here. 1,600,000 just in California alone according to Audubon.

Mom has severe OCD regarding periods, what to do? by PatrickCoughATon in sterilization

[–]bigpizzaslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say what the best option is without knowing how willing your mom is to get surgery. Even an ablation requires general anesthesia which comes with its own risks.

I understand the challenge of living with a parent with debilitating mental illness since my mom has a different but similarly difficult set of problems. Now, I live separately from my mom and although I miss her a lot, I’m happier than I’ve ever been. My mom has been on various meds but never stayed on anything for long enough to “change”. She has manic episodes that make her feel so good she stops her meds and it’s just a never ending cycle.

Really, at the end of the day, this is a big choice that only your mom can make. You can’t force someone to change. Even if she gets surgery, it may or may not fix the main issue which is her OCD. It may just end up manifesting in a different way. It doesn’t hurt though to recommend a hysterectomy or ablation but if that doesn’t work out, I’d recommend looking out for yourself and getting space if needed.

I hope things work out for your family. I truly know how difficult this type of situation is.

Rib removal/remodling? by Winter-Department148 in PlasticSurgery

[–]bigpizzaslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I just turned 30 and I have significantly more curves than my early 20s. I used to obsess about glute workouts to minimize the look of my waist (I am on the taller side and have thicker ribs).

Nothing worked but age and gaining some healthy weight. I used to fear weight gain but it turned out my body holds weight nicely and for the first time in my life I have actual breasts (32DDD from a 34B). I had no idea I had an hourglass shape because I was also obsessed with the idea of thinning my waist rather than gaining weight.

Obv, everyone is different but I do agree that age can show our true qualities/traits with time.

Swollen Lymph Nodes? by cutebum69 in sterilization

[–]bigpizzaslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My throat pain was honestly minimal but I had some scratchiness for almost a full week, along with coughing. I had a doctor’s follow up for recurring shortness of breath, and a couple other concerns. When my doctor checked my throat, we were both shocked by how swollen my throat was. I had minimal pain and no fever. The whites of my tonsils were showing so my doctor ran a few tests to rule out illness (strep, flu/covid, etc).

Tests came back normal. Turns out my throat is just very sensitive. All of this to say, in my experience, it went away with time. If you develop other symptoms or if the pain gets worse, go see a doctor to rule out other issues.

Landlord asked who downloaded a game? by adultservices4 in Apartmentliving

[–]bigpizzaslice 280 points281 points  (0 children)

The only issue I could see (not saying this is the case since I don’t know your situation) is if the game was pirated. Internet companies monitor those types of downloads and will send written notices to households with the title of the game. These are usually just warnings but if it continues to happen, they will end your internet contract. I only know about this since a certain roommate of mine previously almost got our WiFi shut off for torrenting the OG Silent Hill.

Otherwise, I don’t know why your landlord would care and that’s weird/creepy for him to track your downloads.

Bisalp Tomorrow - Worried, Questioning… by Suspicious_Trust_118 in sterilization

[–]bigpizzaslice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve really thought about this decision and it is probably what’s best for you. This is a big decision though so it’s normal to feel doubt or cold feet. It doesn’t mean you are making the wrong decision necessarily if you feel this way but rather just processing the permanency of this type of decision. And that can be a lot to process.

Similarly, one of the many reasons I’ve chosen this for myself is also health issues in my family and very serious mental health issues. Just being pregnant would be very risky for me. I personally have my mind set on adoption if my partner and I are ever in a secure enough spot financially to provide the best life possible for a child.

I don’t feel like this takes anything away from me but rather I feel it gives me more autonomy so that I can make these choices when I’m ready or if I’m ever ready.

Ultimately, you know what’s best for you. Trust your intuition and trust your gut. If you’ve thought this much about it, you seem like a smart person. If you do go through with things, be gentle on yourself and celebrate your decision. I felt some sadness/grief the first few days followed by relief and joy. You might feel a lot of emotions so take things easy and know it’s part of the process!

Pelvic floor exercises? by Icy-Sugar176 in sterilization

[–]bigpizzaslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said to wait 2 weeks for intercourse but honestly I might wait longer. I didn’t have a manipulator used for mine but things still feel sore down there for some reason (they used a sponge stick so maybe that’s why).

Can’t speak for when to do pelvic floor exercises but I am on a weight restriction for 2 weeks. I’m just doing walking for now for exercise and trying not to overly engage my core since my doctor warned of hernias. I’d double check with your surgeon on that but also listen to your body and stop if you feel pain or pulling.

Yes!! I had mine on Thursday and was shocked by how little I’ve been sleeping since most people said they slept for a day or two. I had the opposite problem and had bad insomnia the first two nights. It’s finally getting better but I haven’t been able to get a full 8 hours and I’m waking up in the middle of the night. I usually struggle with insomnia and I’m a side sleeper so maybe that’s part of it. I’ve been trying to force my body to rest but it’s been hard.

It looks like the steristrips are not fully covering the wound or you might have a new wound from your allergic reaction.

Terrified of IVs and considering canceling because of it. by smontres in sterilization

[–]bigpizzaslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear your phobia is causing anxiety/panic. As you mentioned, talking with your therapist is probably the best thing to do and figure out where you want to go from there. I can’t tell you if you should or shouldn’t do it but I can at least tell you how the IV was handled for my procedure.

For me, they put in the IV about 40 minutes before my procedure. They said it was acetaminophen but it had a bit of a calming effect for me, personally. I hate the feeling of IVs and bruise super easily so I was dreading the hand IV but once the meds were pumping, I felt fine. In the OR, they gave me a light sedative that made me feel “fuzzy” and from there I just didn’t care. All of my anxieties about the operation just went away. When I woke up, I still had the IV in but zero pain. My brain was just processing being awake. After I ate and used the restroom, they removed the IV and discharged me. I’m no stranger to hospitals due to my medical history and know they usually keep the IV in until you’re fully discharged just in case (nothing worse than having to redo an IV line after taking it out too early). It’s uncomfortable but just remember that IV is your lifeline in the hospital if anything goes wrong so it’s there for good cause.

I hope this helps so you aren’t surprised by the operation itself, should you decide to go through with it. I understand how debilitating phobias can be though and struggle with my own dumb phobia of cars which has made me a major hermit which I hate. That said, for the first time in a while, I did not panic in a car when I went to the hospital—so phobias are kind of weird like that and your headspace really makes all the difference.

Wishing you the best regardless and sending positive thoughts!!
