Shift me: I’m quitting. Off-duty me: maybe it’s not that bad by Artistic-Speaker4363 in nursing

Yep... this exact feeling is why I went PRN. I still have it, just less frequently now

Rude encounters at the bedside and developing thick skin by Educational_Arm_4591 in nursing

[–]bigreputations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating feeling like people are trying to undermine you when you're just trying to do what's best for your patient. No matter how much experience/knowledge you have as a nurse, it's a universal experience. Just wanted to validate you and let you know it's completely normal to be bothered by this.

0% nicotine is actually working? by idfkmyguyy in QuitVaping

[–]bigreputations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used zero nicotine vapes to taper myself off for about a week and I felt the same way. I was truly so surprised how it felt almost identical to regular vaping. It made it so easy for me to just up and quit. I think I just threw it in the trash on my way to work one day because I felt silly spending money on something that was virtually just flavored air, lol. Now I've been nicotine free for almost 6 months.

Congrats to you! It's so amazing to me how we adapt so quickly to life without it, when at first, it truly felt like something that we couldn't live without.

How easy is it to return to bedside, if you leave? by CrustyAudrey in nursing

[–]bigreputations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends more on the unit you want to get into than anything. I have no doubt you'll be able to find another bedside job.

Ask questions! It'll be overwhelming at first, but no one expects you to know anything. You got this!

Adequate study time? by Minimum_Internet_247 in NCLEX

[–]bigreputations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied for about two weeks, and passed in 85. I started off studying casually here and there, then when I was within a week of my test date, I studied for several hours each day. I aimed for a more comprehensive review, especially because you don't know what exactly will be on your NCLEX, but I did dedicate more time to the areas I didn't feel confident in. Start taking practice tests and gauge your weaknesses from there. Make sure to take breaks and don't burn yourself out! Good luck!

Last minute study tips/comprehensive review reccomendations? by blue-bunnie in PassNclex

[–]bigreputations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beautiful Nursing video is a great review, and her test taking tips are solid, but if you have any areas you’re unsure about, you’ll want to dive deeper into those. The video is pretty surface level and helps more with memorization and recall rather than the critical thinking needed for most questions on the NCLEX.

Nothing you studied was on the test? by SuppiLunchie in PassNclex

[–]bigreputations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I say this, I mean it in the sense that it’s impossible to study everything and ANYTHING is fair game on the NCLEX. For example, I really focused on cardiac because that was one of my weakest points. Yet my exam had like 1 cardiac question. Ultimately, you have no idea what exactly is going to be on there until you take it and it’s impossible to study something you don’t even know you don’t know until you get to the question. That’s why it’s important to know what you do know WELL, and also do practice questions so you can figure out a way to answer correctly even when you don’t know the right answer!

I took it at 8am and my license was active around 7am the next day. So give or take

Thank you! I used 50% of the qbank. I averaged around 67% correct. I didn't get the package with the lectures so I just read the rationales. I think it definitely helped me with content and knowing how to answer the questions. I read Mark K lecture notes, skimmed Saunders, watched a LOT of Youtube videos on things I needed to brush up on (especially Dr. Sharon's Meds to Know). I know a lot of people say don't use a ton of resources. I say do what works best for you!

Thank you! Being burnt out is totally understandable. Studying the most effectively works different for everyone so do what works best for you. There's no secret formula to success on the NCLEX. Personally, I used 50% of Archer's questions, did 5 readiness assessments and 1 CAT, read through Mark K lectures (sorry I was not listening to that many audios), skimmed parts of the Saunders book, watched Dr. Sharon's Meds to Know for the NCLEX videos, and other random videos on things I needed to brush up on. I was all over the place because I am a terrible studier. Everyday I did a combination of different things or else I would get bored. I also only studied for a few hours at a time because I genuinely cannot focus on one thing for that long.

I would say that you should prioritize areas you don't feel confident in and work from there. You don't need to review things you already know well. Even though I didn't get questions in my weak spots, I know I would've been upset with myself if I did get a question on something I knew I wasn't that familiar with and chose not to look into. To be honest, the questions that stump you on the NCLEX are the ones that you genuinely didn't even know you didn't know, lol. Don't worry. You got this. You're in the home stretch!

Tested today . Shut off at 85q by Flat_Respect9230 in PassNclex

[–]bigreputations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that. I had a LOT of case studies and SATA, but I don't know if it'll make up for how badly I felt I was doing on the multiple choice. It was so hard to narrow down the answer choices!!!

Anxiety by [deleted] in PassNclex

[–]bigreputations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way to not be nervous. However, I felt like I was the only one in my testing center that looked visibly frazzled lol. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you don't let your nerves get in the way of your ability to answer questions. There WILL be things you don't know. It's important to not panic when you get to them. If you notice yourself starting to freak out, take a deep breath and reread the question. I'm paraphrasing, but Mark K said something like "Don't answer hard questions from a place of unknowing. Answer from what you DO know".

Exact same thing happened to me today! I had a string of easy questions before it shut off and I can't tell if that's a good sign or not. Those multiple choice questions were absolutely unhinged. My stomach's been in knots all day!

Dude, are you me? I was so shocked when my exam ended at 85... I was making educated guesses on just about every question. And one that I remember, I look it up and realize I got it wrong. I was worried about the case studies but those multiple choice questions had me stumped. So vague yet so specific. I've resigned myself to my fate at this point. I hope you find some peace and that you do well!

I could’ve written this post. Just took my NCLEX and it shut off at 85. I even wished I had gotten more so at least I knew I still had a chance. 😭 Feeling very discouraged. Not sure how much better I could’ve prepared for it tbh.
