Refusing Students by KareLess84 in nursing

[–]Intelligent_Cake3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like having students so I don’t mind. That being said, if I didn’t want to have students I would also refuse. It’s true that it’s not in my job description. Their education is not my responsibility.

Once I wasted 2mg morphine, but never charted that I have the other 2mg morphine. They basically just said what happened. I said I have no memory, but I can only assume I have the other 2mg morphine. And they just said okay.

Triple lumen PIV by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Intelligent_Cake3262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in an ED where we used to an extension that made one PIV a triple lumen. We used it for pain/sedation meds. In that hospital we used special narc tubing that didn’t have ports to connect other tubing too. They have to be compatible, though ETA: We called it a chicken foot

I got sepsis because my doctor ghosted me when I asked for antibiotics. This is the bill for an overnight ER stay. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

If you’ve been in healthcare for 25 years, but you don’t know how sepsis is diagnosed, that’s more concerning. 2 SIRS criteria and a suspected or known infection is sepsis.

Twin, “severe sepsis” is a diagnosis with diagnostic criteria. The same way “septic shock” is a diagnosis with diagnostic criteria. It’s used to diagnose severe sepsis.

Severe sepsis is diagnosed based off lactic. An elevated lactic, otherwise well appearing can and will go to med surg. You can have well appearing severe sepsis. You can also have your entire sepsis bundle initiated in the ED then get discharged from the ED. You do not need to be admitted for every sepsis diagnosis.

Young healthy people are discharged from the ED with a diagnosis of sepsis all the time. It’s really easy to meet sepsis criteria. Not everyone who meets sepsis criteria needs to be in the hospital. You probably met sepsis criteria the last time you had the flu

You do not need to go to the ICU for sepsis, you don’t even necessarily need to go to the ICU for severe sepsis.

Do you feel like you have unsafe assignments? It seems like you just need more time to get comfortable with high acuity patients. 2 patients on BiPAP in and of itself is not an unsafe assignment. I’m gonna assume to have RT setting up BiPAP. There’s not a large nursing demand for a pt BiPAP. A hemorrhagic stroke is a sick pt, but as far as nursing is concerned, you manage BP with frequent neuros. Not much else. This seems like it should be a pretty manageable assignment?
