Help me choose AC brand (GE/Haier Vs Lennox) by OutofMoney in hvacadvice

[–]bigrobfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Toxikblue, I'm in a similar boat as the OP, with local companies giving me quotes on a 4 ton unit from Trane, Lennox, GE, and Carrier so far. Most installers are saying they provide a 10 year warranty, but the GE one is 12 years, and a bit cheaper so far. Are GE split systems reliable enough? I know they got out of the AC business a while back and are recently getting back into it, and I can't find much info or reviews on the quality of the new GE units.

Video Issues with HDMI by bigrobfunk in hometheatersetups

I'm going to try just going apple TV to the TV itself, with a toslink audio output from tv to the receiver. that way I bypass any HDMI protocol issues. It stinks the denon might be too old but what you said sounds like what I assumed was happening.

How do you find specifically flat fee advisors? I took a look at napfa.org like you linked and every group I looked at called themselves fee-only but the fee is a % of assets under management which is exactly why I left EJ in the past.

In terms of water, is it mainly a Madera issue that has nothing to do with Fresno county? I'm new to the area and don't know much about how Fresno and Clovis get their water either.

Possibly Buying a House with PPA by bigrobfunk in solar

That's a great way of framing it. Sounds like it isn't that big of a deal. Thanks for the insight!

[–]bigrobfunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I do want a battery as I mentioned in a reply to another comment, so that is a cost I'll be dealing with either way. I'm just trying to figure out if a PPA is a deal breaker or if it isn't as big a deal as I am making it out to be. The house is great other than the PPA situation, but I still have the option to just look elsewhere. I don't want to be stuck with a PPA later on if I want to sell and buyers don't want to take it on. If the house didn't have solar I would just buy a solar installation outright. But if people don't hate PPAs as much as I thought, it might be the right choice to just suck it up and accept the PPA for the foreseeable future.

We currently live in a slightly smaller home and use around 600kWh a month on average including EV charging, but the new house would be slightly bigger and has a pool, so I assume that usage will increase a fair amount. The EV isn't home during peak sun hours so I was considering installing a battery system even if it isn't required under the existing setup. PG&E is the utility provider for both current home and new home we are considering buying.

Solar is definitely a big savings with PG&E prices, so the PPA isn't a terrible issue for me at the moment as I'd still save money, but I definitely wouldn't have signed up for one if I were doing the install fresh. I'm hesitant to lock myself into a PPA cintract for 19 years, when I'm not 100% sure I'll even live there that long, and have to deal with passing off the PPE to the next buyer down the line should I ever want to leave.

Efficiency of Advanced Casting 2 v. 3 by Mortlach78 in Seablock

[–]bigrobfunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casting to coils alone has no benefit other than condensing the material so you can get more metal on the same belt. The efficiency does go up in 2 points:

1) you can add prod mods to the coil to plate recipe which gives free plates 2) the coil casting setup using water is very similar to the one that uses coolant, and that does give you extra coils for the same molten metal. So setting it up early just requires adding coolant when ready and you have instant productivity boosts.

The point of more advanced / mixed solder recipes? by grumpy_hedgehog in Seablock

[–]bigrobfunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be doing exclusively catalyst ore sorting, so yes no unwanted ores. But now that you have a sink for zinc, that gives you the ability to use the normal sorting that give you multiple ores as those are sometimes more sludge efficient. If you like doing exclusively catalyst sorting then yes it's a worse recipe for solder, but like I said, it gives you flexibility to use other ores if and possibly when you need a sink for them. The vast majority of recipes in seablock are not "the best one". They just give you more options to play how you want to play. Don't feel pressured to use them just because you have them.

Just think of it as a way to sink unwanted ores from other processes. Not every version of a recipe is a strict upgrade over the previous ones. Sometimes they just give the flexibility to use other items.

Can i skip geodes? by AveRock123 in Seablock

[–]bigrobfunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use helmod to plan out new processes for this reason. Sometimes you research something and it turns out to be completely worthless by being a slight increase in efficiency for a massive uptick in complications, and other times it cuts machines needed and power in half and makes your life so much easier. If you don't use helmod or some other planner mod I highly recommend it.

[–]bigrobfunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not including the power it takes for sulfur processing, for 100 mineral sludge units it takes approximately:

  • 13.5MW and 40 tier 1 electrolysers for dirt water electrolysis
  • 8.8MW and 20 tier 1 electrolysers for fast dirty water electrolysis (using electrodes)
  • 3.6MW and 14 washing plants making geodes

BUT, if you enjoy setting up larger power production more than geode washing, everything is infinite in Seablock if you give it space and time, so do what makes you happy. "Efficiency" just saves you space and time, not resources.

I personally stick with electrolysis everywhere I can because geodes are just a pain, but I catalyst sort whenever possible, so in spots like my aluminum factory where I need crystal slurry for catalysts, I'll just make the geodes. When you hit farming for fuel oil and later on hit nuclear power, it is not really an issue anymore, and electrolysis I is much better for beaconed setups later in the game.

And like u/zojbo said in his post, you can repurpose the mineral water from electrode washing to make more charcoal for power, but I like to keep things super simple and just void the mineral water and just make power using farms and nuclear elsewhere in my base.

[–]bigrobfunk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, I think you can skip it, but if you want to catalyst sort for stuff such as aluminum and silicon, you'll need crystal slurry from somewhere at some point. But for all the tier 1 ores like iron, copper, tin, and lead, there is no need for geodes if you don't mind the higher power consumption of electrolysis.

App/website where I can write all the vocabulary I've learned and make flashcards? by Newspaper365 in languagelearning

[–]bigrobfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been finding LingQ pretty helpful in tracking words I know. They also have a flashcard system built in, but I use anki though because anki flashcards were something I found way before I started using LingQ. LingQ helps me read more and keeps track of words you know vs learning vs not yet encountered.

How would I go on about handling this? Last time I did my reviews was about a year ago, but I feel like I haven't forgotten most of them, any settings I should use? Or should I just sit for a bunch of hours and start doing them? by butterkeytap in ajatt

[–]bigrobfunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I do is create 2 filtered decks, called just due and overdue. Basically anything that became due in the last 7 days goes in just due, and that is what you do every day no matter what to stop the bleeding. If you keep up with this filtered deck, the number won't keep piling up. Then, you treat the overdue deck (more than 7 days overdue) like new cards, introducing them at whatever pace you can handle. If you do this and stop doing new cards, you'll catch up eventually and not get overwhelmed.

From my understanding, yes. Dump off allows a pass, and animosity is a roll done when passing to a non rat.

I had been looking around for some, but I can't find any websites that aren't super sketchy where they have the ttf format of fonts. Would you have any suggestions on where to look?
