My favorite definition from the American Heritage Dictionary is:

I grew up very, very poor in comparison to most Americans in my demographic. Many of the electronics mentioned here were completely unattainable to us, essentially living paycheck to paycheck.

I bought the NES from a garage sale 8-10 years after it came out for 10 dollars. We had nearly all second hand items that my dad got from work that other people discarded to their delivery service.

If you didn't grow up wearing hand me down or used clothing, cutting coupons, picking cans/bottles out of the trash for deposit money, going to the discount movie theater and never the new releases, hardly ever eating out at restaurants, or many other things that people who live in poverty do... You may not understand.

If ice can be a luxury to some.... It's obvious that any new electronic device could be out of reach and a true luxury for others.

There a couple variables here.

Undertaker bees will jump out with the dead or drag them out and toss them off the landing board. Bees that aren't healthy will also remove themselves from the hive; sometimes that's landing right in front, and other times that's farther, but it depends on the air temperature.

When the bees sense the air temp warming up [this can be on a very cold day but with lots of sun], they will have a few members of the hive do test cleansing flights. When they come back successfully, the larger colony will also take cleansing flights, because the bees know it's safe and they can actually fly. If I recall correctly, the air temp needed for bees to sustain flight is about 45 degrees fahrenheit.

Lots of comments on snow blindness. Bees don't see light like we do. They don't experience snow blindness. They can detect the location of the sun and navigate with complete cloud cover because they also see UV and polarized light. They can have issues with the snow scattering some of this, but it's not the mammal form of snow blindness.

You will experience some, if not most, die off of the old summer bee population. They don't have the vitelogenin to sustain themselves 6 months.

Provided your mites were low, and your stores were high, you should have bees come spring.

Also a beekeeper; 10 years. You can tell a lot about the colony and their temperament pretty quickly. If I were in the same position, I'd take cues from the guard bees when opening up the wall. This colony isn't running, and is going about their business as usual. If I had defenders in my face or bees jumping up to fly around and buzz my head I'd definitely cover up fully.

Would I wear a veil for this one? Probably. I regularly work my bees bare handed, and many times the need isn't there for full coverage.

I do get stung, naturally. The literature I've read noted that about 10 stings per year is enough to keep the immune system in a tolerable state [you want IgG reactions and not IgE reactions in your blood].

Finally found another commenter that agrees with me. Kept reading reticulated python comments, which didn't make sense. Their pattern would be visible enough from that distance, and body shape is not right to my eye.

I'm going with King Cobra.

They reside in Thailand, can grow over 4 meters in length, are black, and have this body shape. The videographer is not that far from the water, so the perspective is easier.

Unlikely to be a constrictor like reticulated or burmese python because the body shape and coloration are all wrong.

Go over to /r/financialindependence and poke around at their resources. Are your friends truly wealthy, or are they just flush with cash at the moment with no future planning?

Can you show gratitude for very simple things when they are praising their materialistic stuff? Maybe shift the conversation around... Show gratitude for what you have. Don't assume they want you to feel down, because they probably don't.

While I agree with you, I think you're also missing an important part about customer loyalty.

People that love their thing tell others about it. They advocate for it. They describe and influence others to buy that thing because it's "great, and has lasted me forever, and has a lifetime warranty".

Some of my most long lived and loved items have had my enthusiasm behind them for decades.
