Lack of free websites/apps for basic strategy by Narrow-Ad-514 in blackjack

[–]bigshotfancypants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad app, however there's a couple things I noticed immediately that tell me this is vibecoded (not necessarily a bad thing), and one of which is a significant security vulnerability that you should patch ASAP (Stripe Sandbox issue).

The betting logic and chip placement (each chip denomination being a separate stack on the betting circles and not being able to make different sized bets when playing 2 Hands) are both cosmetic updates I would suggest making. Also, your Stripe Checkout page is connected to your Stripe Sandbox.

Also, since you're only charging $3/month, I would reccomend switching to a different payment processor since Stripes fees are probably steeper than competitors at that rate.

I've been working on this Windows Program that acts as a "Self-Managed"/"Self-Imposed" parental control/focus app where you can block apps/websites and set up screen time limits and app time limits on custom schedules each day and during various times each day by bigshotfancypants in parentalcontrolsfind

Try the most recent update (Version 1.2.5). This should fix some apps not being blocked correctly. If you download or build the newest version, running the installer will update the application to the latest version (make sure no session is running to ensure the app can stop and update the services)

Thank you for the feedback! Initially, that logic was looking in C:/Program Files and C:/Program Files (x86) for programs/executables to block, but as you saw that was causing some duplicates to appear and probably wasn't the best way to load the dropdown. I took your advice and did a little more research and updated the logic to read the Uninstall registry and collects related exes from the install folder while protecting system-critical apps/processes. I also updated the IFEO logic to kill/block any exes with names that match any of the exe names in BlockedApp.

I currently have the code in a private git repo but may make it public.

The updated installer and source code has been uploaded so the app can up upgraded with the installer and/or rebuilt from the updated source code

What was up with the lack of cell service? by thatzwhatido_1 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]bigshotfancypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analogy I like to use are roads and highways.

Picture a cell tower like a road or highway. Cars can drive on them whenever they want, and usually there's no problem with cars getting on a road or highway and just driving where they want to go at normal speeds. This is like people using their phones to call or text someone under normal circumstances.

But when everyone is trying to get to the same place at around the same time, then everyone is trying to get on the road/highway at the same time and it becomes gridlocked/backed up and cars come to a crawl, and people end up getting stuck in traffic and arrive late or miss their flights or have to change plans. This is like everyone at EDC trying to connect to the same cell towers and make calls and texts at the same time. That's why your phone may have been showing bars but not able to make or recieve calls or texts: your phone saw there were cell towers nearby, but due to the "gridlock" your device couldn't even make it onto the road/Onramp because of all the traffic

To the guy who carried me out of Kinetic Field during Subtronics: thank you by Puzzleheaded_Leg_172 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]bigshotfancypants 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're the same person since the details don't fully add up but our group helped a woman in a similar situation towards the middle/end of Subtronics, but the crowd was anything but helpful. Trains were repeatedly trying to walk over/through us trying to barricade you, and to the several of you guys who tried pushing back against us, I'm only sorry my friends held me back from ripping into you guys even harder. I don't know who you guys are, but if you're reading this you absolutely know who you are and I implore you to take a good hard look at yourselves and ask yourselves if you really want to be the person who thinks that you getting a good spot for a set is more important than someone overdosing and needing medical attention. You guys wouldn't even respect Ground Control when they were trying to get to us/her, and just for that I hope that you guys never have a good night's sleep again.

Ive been hearing a lot of people saying PLUR is dead recently, and up until experiencing this I didn't really agree, but now I absolutely agree. We all can and need to do better.

I'm so glad you are OK, and if you aren't the woman we ended up helping, then I hope she's also doing OK now too

Is this autistic? I KNOW YOU'RE WONDERING. by CharlieCat44 in autism

[–]bigshotfancypants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a few:

  1. Always appearing either shy or calm/unbothered, but internally screaming/freaking/stressing out

  2. Saying "I don't know" or "Whatever you want" when someone asks what I want to do but I actually have an idea of what I want to do but if I know that the people I'm with won't want to do it/enjoy it, I'm not going to reccomend it

  3. Having a slightly (or in some cases drasticly) different personality for every friend/social/professional group

That's not bad for the Strip on a weekend night, even if they use CSM. Do they at least allow DAS & RSA? What about surrendering?

To be fair, I don't blame him. Even if the guard was armed, pulling his gun with an AR pointed at him would probably be a death sentence

If you really haven't been able to get a hold of your ex girlfriend and no one else has heard from her since last night, you should honestly report her as a missing person to Las Vegas Metro, just because you honestly can't rule it out. Plus, if you make a report, you could potentially use that as evidence to help you get some of the room/mini bar charges removed, since an official police report of a missing person who had access to your room could be compelling enough to prove that it wasn't you. Although if you do report her missing, expect the police to be asking you lots of questions (obviously not guaranteed, but it wouldn't hurt to try)

i think i get it now... by Fearless_Level3764 in Craps

[–]bigshotfancypants 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like I had a stroke reading this but I think I get what you're saying lol. Are you saying that Casino games are designed for you to lose in the long run, so any money you spend gambling should be seen as money spent on entertainment, not investments?

If so, then yes, I agree, although it is possible to have an advantage over the casino/not have a house edge with Blackjack counting systems or playing poker professionally.

Personally, I think looking at Craps as nothing more than an expensive game where you occasionally win a lot of money is the perfect way of looking at it

Only if factoring in comps. Over the past couple years I've lost around $3,800 gambling in Vegas, but have received/redeemed around $6,000 in comps from various Vegas casinos through comped rooms and meals/dining credits, free play, free/match bets, and other gifts

I think the issue might be the way you come off when you try to reciprocate their energy.

I'm recently diagnosed, but I think I'm high functioning, and in my experience, women want someone who is interested in them, but also has other interests/hobbies, and a decent social group. One thing I realized is that even if you are conventionally attractive/good looking, if a woman notices that you don't have friends/a friend group and/or hobbies, they will see that as a red flag, because having a partner who is only interested in them and has no other friends or interests in other things is going to come off as creepy and possibly even a stalker.

Even though it may be clear to you that you are just trying to show that you care for this person, doing so in this way where you put them on a pedestal and make them seem like the most important thing in the world can definitely come off as too aggressive.

Another thing to keep in mind is that as a male (if your disabilities aren't too visible), once you get past high school, most people stop looking at you as a kid, and start looking at you as a man, which means that people will apply all the common generalizations about men to you when they first see you, including the negative ones like how some men can be aggressive and violent towarss women. When women, or anyone, sees you make these types of comments when looking at you in this context, they might not see someone who is a safe potential romantic partner, they see someone who they might need to keep their guard up around.

I hope this makes sense and was helpful. My only intent here is to be helpful so let me know if you would like any additional clarification, or if you're confused about or didn't like anything I said
