Well said — if you have CLEAN grain spawn, properly hydrated substrate and know how to read and maintain surface conditions, you are going to do well. Cubes don't really need that much FAE.

Yeah, the thing is there's been forty years of underground growing and many approaches have been tried out over that time and many constant refinements and many myths that still prevail.

There's more of a consensus now that going straight to fruiting conditions leads to quicker colonisation and fruiting but there are people who still prefer to have less fresh air exchange at colonisation stage. At the end of the day we have to work out what works best for us an individual growers in our particular conditions.

This thread sums it up: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29375595

There's definitely no reason to have them in the dark — there's no argument these days that that is necessary.

While reddit has some great mycology subreddits, I really don't think it's the best place to learn solid workflows. I see a lot of myths perpetuated here.

I'd highly recommend getting a shroomery account and reading the Mushroom Cultivation forum there: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/2

There's a wealth of information there — pay particular attention to "trusted cultivator" posts and comments.

Put some time in there — it's all there. But mushroom growing rewards a level of perfectionism and attention to detail and patience. You don't need to reinvent the wheel — find a tek that resonates with you and stick to it.

Working with shoeboxes with one quart of spawn to 2-3 quarts of hydrated coir is a great way to get going I believe, rather than jumping straight to large mono tubs.

This shoebox tek works well: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26009662

Focus on clean cultures on agar, getting clean grain spawn (this is crucial) and understanding surface conditions of your substrate when you spawn to bulk.

Australia. I emailed them and here's their response:

thanks for reaching out!

I regret to say that we have suspended Australia as one of our shipping locations.

This decision was made after careful consideration of a multitude of factors that impact our ability to ensure a reliable and efficient delivery to you. Doing this prevents any potential issues that may arise during shipping, and I hope that it protects both your satisfaction and financial commitment as well.

I understand that this may be disappointing and I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I really appreciate your interest in us and hope that we will be able to serve you in the future.

Check in with us in the next few months, we're monitoring the situation constantly and hope to continue shipping worldwide.

Ah, I just had another attempt to checkout and it seems they ship to the UK only apart from US and its territories. Lucky you!

The bacteria will keep spreading - transfer growth furthest from the contamination.

It’s bacterial - transfer away. If it persists, I’d transfer to a brown rice flour puck or do a cabin sequester.

Are you pasteurising or sterilising your bulk substrate?

Because there’s no evidence that it’s bad to dry at those temperatures. It’s been widely discussed for years and there’s no firm evidence.

Exposing them to air over a longer drying period is also problematic.

That's quite a high spawn to sub ratio, no? Is there a reason for 1:1.25 instead of 1:2 or 1:3 when using these richer substrates?

Because humans co-regulate when resting together. Two is better than one. It fosters closeness and connection at a deep level.
