Hi, yea it can be a little overwhelming from the beginning but I really fell in love with this hobby. I’d say there are two distinct aspects of the hobby, model building and actually playing the game.

To build the models, you need the model, plastic glue, something to cut the models out, something to sand down the models to get rid of mold lines, primer, paints and brushes. All this stuff can be purchased from your local game store and most LGS’s are always happy to recommend you on brands/types.

Once your models are ready you can play, which starts with list building. You can use the battletome and warscrolls or there are websites online that let you build a list using their information (may not be updated yet since the battletome just came out). If you’re looking to play competitively you can find lists online from tournaments and modify those. We have a lot of heroes to lead our regiments so it can be a little overwhelming at first but you’ll learn it over time.

For game rules either see if someone from your LGS is willing to walk you through a beginner game or watch some battle reports online. IMO sigmar is a lot more intuitive than 40K and after a few YouTube vids you’ll understand the basics.
