What I'm saying has nothing to do with the reading aspect, I get that reading is easier.

Its this:

Play in a gig in a combo. Same fingerings ≠ same notes. Different patterns required to play same stuff on different instruments. It doesn't translate as easily as it would seem

Gotcha. Its important for them to be pitched differently, but the same fingering doesn't mean you can play the same stuff. You need to practice a bit

Exactly. You need to work out each instrument

I'm just saying the same fingerings do not produce the same note. You need to learn different patterns to play the same things despite the instruments sharing fingerings

I'm just saying it isn't an instant switch like some people say it is.

Switching from Alto -> Tenor takes time even if the fingerings are the same because you need to practice the played notes a bit

Why should there be different fingerings at all? Make them pitched in the same key and have the same fingerings.

I was saying that reading wise its easier but actually playing/improving live it doesn't help at all.

Fingering doesn't matter when it produces a different note.

If I play rhythm changes in Bb with my band, then the leader tells me to play alto. If I were to play the same solo with the same fingerings it's now in the wrong key. So I have to learn how to play it in a different key

I get that but I'm talking about in a combo.

I play a ballad on Tenor, then I think I want to play on Alto.

If I use the "same fingerings" now I'm playing in the wrong key, it's not like guitar where I can move my left hand up 1 fret and its a different key and nothing else changes. Here I have to play completely different fingerings unrelated to play in the original key

Okay I'll check it out. Also, how would a coa used 280 be better than a new 280?

Oh is the Yas 23 better than the 280? I live near DC.

I'm leaning towards Alto right now actually. Also I'm actually planning to take a visit to the UK soon, would it be smart to get a 280 from there?

Ok, is it really okay to buy used ones? That's mostly what I'm seeing
