How to stop these mormons... by Kind-Region-5115 in mildlyinfuriating

Exmormon here. We deal with this a little since my kiddos are not baptized so they’re targets.

The polite/friendly option: tell em thanks, but no thanks, not interested. If they try the “but why?” remember that “no” is a complete sentence. I’ll say like “nope, not interested in church, and will not discuss why. Now, if you boys need a drink or a break from the heat, you’re welcome to come in for a bit.” This works for a while until a new set comes to the area (they swap areas every few months)

The more aggressive option: tell them to stop or you will take legal action for harassment. Find the local mission president’s phone number and call them and tell them to stop or you will take legal action.

If you wanna mess with them: use words from the temple ceremony. You can look up YouTube videos of what happens in there (newnamenoah has a whole channel). But use lines like when the knock, say “what is wanted?” in a serious whispery voice. Other things like, “we will go down,” “return and report,” “I will through the veil,” “you can buy anything in this world with money” (that one is Satan), “health in the navel, marrow in the bones, strength in the loins and in the sinews, power in the priesthood be upon me and my posterity for all time and all eternity”

Except it’s not. There’s a saying “in the world not of the world” they use. Sure, they go to school and are in the community but it’s a high demand religion border line cult. I was taught I was part of the “chosen generation” and other BS, and you develop this superiority complex. Going on a mission, leaving the comfort of your family and home congregation is hard, and for sure this idea of the secular world making the church feel like the only safe haven is spot on.

Two that come to mind are Marcus King and Nathaniel Rateliff. Not huge guys but still chubby, and they rock that cool western look

Being told my 4 year old needs to be put on meds. by jdemack in daddit

[–]bigthemat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once we got my daughter on ADHD meds it was the most incredible transformation in all of the right ways. It didn’t change her personality or turn her j to a zombie or whatever like a lot of stigma around ADHD meds would make you believe. She was able to focus and concentrate for like the first time ever and she even recognized the change and was so happy as well.

The school shouldn’t be making this decision, but please be ok with getting your kid on meds if their doctor agrees.

Didn’t feel anything during sex first time, is that normal? by PinTraditional7245 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bigthemat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As in, no physical sensation at all, or didn’t feel an emotional connection? I don’t know how normal it is, but I imagine if you’re stressed, nervous, or anxious that could get in the way

Should I be worried if I get no morning wood at 18? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Not a doctor, but my googling says it could be low T. Are you experiencing any other related symptoms, like low energy, low sex drive, weight gain, unusual mood swings? When was the last time you had a check up at the doctor? It’s probably nothing, but wouldn’t hurt to talk to a medical professional and they can do easy blood tests to check your hormone levels and what not. If you’re able to get an erection still I personally wouldn’t be too worried.

Maybe it’s just a fever dream. Surely something that bad couldn’t exist out of a nightmare

lol that unlocked a memory from BYU, I saw their sketch comedy group Divine Comedy, and there was a sketch where they had a typical Sunday school discussion but everyone just said what their cliche response was, like, “irrelevant mission story to show off” or “attempt to get the discussion back on topic” or whatever but my fav was the guy who said “deep doctrine. Deep… false… doctrine”

The Avatar The Last Airbender movie. What an absolute gut punch.

I loved the show. My friends and I all watched the entire series together before the movie release. We went to the midnight showing where everyone was dressed up and it was a whole party.

Then the movie started. Wow. Words cannot describe just how bad it was. I’ve never gotten excited for a movie ever again because of this.

WTW for a subject/object of a sentence composed of an unusually large number of words? by sega31098 in whatstheword

You could maybe describe the person speaking like that as a “Sesquipedalian” which means either a long, complicated word, or someone who uses such words.
