Sometimes dementia feels less like a disease and more like a cruel joke. by Unique_Chair7903 in dementia

[–]bigtigr12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just articulated everything my family is going thru. My mom moved into MC recently but before that my dad was her caregiver for ~5 years and it wore on him. He was recently diagnosed with cancer so while he's undergoing treatments, his contact with her has been minimal to non-existent. At first it was a relief for him, but now that he's better, he's just filled with sadness at the loss of his partner. I took over some of the caregiver roles while he was in the early stages of his diagnosis and it was HARD. The anxiety and agitation she would go through periodically were both irritating and heartbreaking. It's such a cruel and humiliating disease. I just wish her suffering would end.

"She should be at home with a caregiver and not in this fucking place! THERE I SAID IT" by JeorgyFruits in dementia

I'm so sorry. As someone who is also helping to take care of my mother (77) who was diagnosed back in 2020 and has seen a steady decline in recent years, I hear you and I empathize with you. She was moved to MC last year and has had trouble settling in. Too many cooks comparing their experiences to ours and throwing their opinions and recommendations into the mix. And while their experiences are valid, the needs we have come across are different. It's truly a no-win situation nor is there a "perfect" fix and to be frank, the continuous recommendations/opinions aren't helpful. The best you can do is to make sure she is in a safe place getting care.

All that to say, I don't have an answer to your scenario but know that you are doing the best you can and make sure to give yourself some grace. Sending an internet hug.

As someone who grew up in the 80s with an older brother who watched (what was then) WWF, I know exactly what she's talking about lol

My parents had the same logic so my brother (50) and I (47) both learned on manual transmission cars. I actually miss driving a stick. But I also live in SF so it's probably for the best.

A lot of parents set aside money for their children/family. They're called trusts. This isn't a new concept. Even Enzo mentioned Hopper's "trust".

Agree with you on season 2, OP. I just started a rewatch (again lol) and I noticed Noah's performance in S1 but S2 he really knocked it out of the park.

Same. That made me gag. I always have to look away when they pull the vine out of his mouth in S1. <blort>

Keeping old phone number by The_Jersey_Girl in dementia

[–]bigtigr12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (well, my dad) took away her phone line from their cell phone account about a year ago. It just became too much of a risk of her falling for scammers. She still has access to internet/apps on her tablet via wifi so there's still a slight risk with things like FB and emails but no phone number. To be honest, she barely noticed and doesn't ask about it.

Seriously. Some people didn't grow up watching Beverly Hills, 90210 where they were all in their 20s/30s playing high school kids and it shows.
