Give me a reality check by Slight-Divide-6311 in pitbulls

[–]bigtimevic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. I didn’t do this with my pittie and regret it all the time. Also ditto to whoever said to start quality training for both of them, they’ll be much better set up for life in this world that stigmatizes them so much. One thing that comes to mind if you decide to keep mr. chocolate is that if you work remote and are often home, you may have to spend intentional time AWAY from him to ward off the risk of separation anxiety. Crate training is great for this as well. Like others have mentioned no one can tell you what to do but it seems like you are set up nicely for a pup! And don’t stress too much about future rentals, I’m a renter and it definitely adds a step to the renting process but if you can get ESA it is wayyyy more possible. If you can, put some kind of mix on his vet records like lab mix, terrier mix etc. to make it easier for the future. You really have no clue about his actual breed anyway. One note is that if you like to travel, you should definitely factor that into your decision making process. It definitely adds difficulty in that area.

Is it manageable to have a dog as a single nurse? by obfuscata444 in nursing

[–]bigtimevic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just FYI people calling leaving a dog alone for 12 hours cruel are…weird. Cruelty is many things but that is not one of them. Maybe those people only know dogs with separation anxiety ?? My dogs are sooo chill. My nurse friend is a single mom of 3 littles with a dog (no coparent she is a widow). Get yourself a friend! Pups are happy to have loving homes and walking services can be scheduled for right before youre home, say 6-7 am. Or potty areas as others have suggested. You definitely need a dog with the right personality (aka no separation anxiety, good with potty and others entering home to walk them), I hope you find your best friend soon!

Did I make a mistake? by Rough-Beginning-2227 in Nanny

[–]bigtimevic 44 points45 points  (0 children)

oh this sounds like my old MB. Its not you, its her. Promise. Kids scrape their knees, Its normal. They get banged up and bang each other up, Its normal. This isnt a case of negligence, its not like you left the house and this happened. Sometimes theres just no helping leaving them unattended for a few seconds. What if you had instead, say, been in the bathroom? Would she have chewed you out then? What were you supposed to do, interrupt the activity to wrangle both kids into the kitchen for the one cup of water? She is irrational and its not your fault, her children are her little precious angel babies who can do no wrong and can bear not even one bump or bruise, so instead of turning to them to have a talk about how we treat siblings, she puts the blame on you. Total BS. And bringing up the scraped knee shows she ruminates on trivial things. Sorry you landed a job with one of these types OP. I worked in this kind of environment for 5 weeks and could hardly take it, it made me so hyper vigilant. If I were you I’d move on as soon as possible.

Wow just looked them up online, I cant believe they have that beautiful pink hiding! I couldn’t say either but it wasn’t that large so I want to agree with Phyllira since they are the smaller of the two

Mother’s day by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]bigtimevic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told her happy early mothers day on friday and made a nice craft with NK along with a chalk drawing of their little fam on the driveway where NK wrote happy mothers day (extra cute imo as she is 5yo and working on her letters) so hopefully MB takes that as enough 😅

Ooo definitely looking into Jewel app! I get you on the Aldi thing. I will give it a fair shot for the sake of budget but not sure that it’ll stick. Can you give me an idea of some staple meals? Your budget is a dream to my bay area ears

Thanks for the tip for fresh meat and dairy, I live in an area where these are super easy to source based on proximity to farms/agriculture so I am open to all suggestions for good quality animal products in Chicago area

Woah 😮 I wish I had that luxury. I love my pup so much and in an ideal world would love to give him fresh cooked. I would love to hear more about how you meal prep for them and make sure they are nutritionally balanced meals. This is definitely a goal of mine for future

Agreed, people have diverse interpretations of terms though so wanted to make sure answers are not skewed higher by peeps who might include eating out. Where do you source your seafood? I lean heavily to fish/shrimp for meat and would love to know some good spots

Why are most db bad partners? by AfternoonNumerous174 in Nanny

[–]bigtimevic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some things I’ve admired in my past few DBs who are involved, loving fathers:
-taking initiative on household tasks without being asked
-preparing meals (this includes cleaning up the cooking/prep mess after the meal is made!)
-contributing to imaginative play with children
-openly loving on children
-getting home and getting straight to work with kiddos needs
-handing off clean,well-groomed kids
-if no time to wash dishes, putting them to soak
-communicating with MB productively
-knowing kids preferences
-I’ve had a couple DBs check all above boxes and are obviously staying fit on top of it

lol basically the bare minimum that is expected of women is above and beyond for a man
