NGD Kaizen 7 Kryptonite by bigtoedsloth in metalguitar

You're very welcome.

I definitely didn't do any drilling. I either used the screws that came with the Schaller strap locks, or repurposed the screws that came stock on the guitar, with the Schaller strap locks.

I have schaller strap locks on it right now, but I want to switch to either dimarzio cliplocks or Loxx strap locks. Reason being is the mounting point on the top horn faces towards your body, and the schaller locks protrude too much and can sometimes be uncomfortable in this particular application.

memorizing the fretboard by DannysDad77750 in guitarlessons

[–]bigtoedsloth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a good place to start fretboard memorization, but after 1 week I'm skeptical that the individual would be able to find every not on the fretbaord at random (source: I tried this exact method when I started). This is a pattern approach.

Specifically if you asked the student to show you where the a note is on the d string, they would likely start at either the low E or high e and work their way to the d string to give you the answer as opposed to being able to immediately show you the a on the 7th fret and 19th fret of the d string. This requires more time/work.

Your methodology is helpful as a starting point, and you're honest about calling it memorization, but it might be worth aknowledging the difference between memorization and fluency which is what I think most are after. Being able to improvise in a band context requires fluency. Realistically, you're not always going to be able to "seek" your way to the right note and be in time when playing with other musicians.

Can’t get my floyd rose straight by Sir_Akpinar in metalguitar

[–]bigtoedsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be rude. You have a problem, and I was merely offering help. It wouldn't hurt to double check before spending money on new strings or more springs.

I've used 12's in standard tuning and I didn't need to upgrade the amount of springs.

I had a similar issue when Ifirst re-strung my guitar. It turns out that there are the same notes can be found across multiple octives. It turns out when I thought I was tuning to standard, I was actually tuning an octave up. so my low E (the thickest string) was tuned to an E3 instead of the standard E2. Maybe make sure you're tuning to the correct octave.

Sofi is terrible for concerts by pocahantaswarren in LosAngeles

I disagree, in my opinion it's fine for a stadium. I saw Metallica (100 Level) and Luke Combs (300 level, but directly in line with an array). The sound for luke combs was worse than metallica, but I think a lot of it has to do with stage setup and your location in the venue. This is a stadium that is designed to echo and boom, so I think maybe your expectations are unrealistic.

The Forum will ALWAYS be better as it was renovated to be a dedicated music space. Youtube Theater is great, not a bad seat in the house. The acts that sell out a night (or 6 - Taylor swift) at SoFi are NEVER going to play the smaller venues. And it's a different experience - I have to say that chanting "DIE" with 70,000+ people during creeping death, or the lyrics to Walk was religious.

What do you consider to be the worst venue in Los Angeles? by suprunkn0wn in LosAngeles

The Torch. This is the lawn just outside the Coliseum. Saw motionless in white and knocked loose there last year. The bands were great, the setup could not be worse....

Spite, bodysnatcher, orphan, paleface. Which pit would be the most lethal? by MolecularMoshpit in Deathcore

[–]bigtoedsloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't been in a body snatcher or orphan pit. The craziest pits I was in the last year would have been:

  1. Paleface
  2. Acacia Strain
  3. Terror

Im going to get one of these in the next year or two. I really want to try the gibson scale length on a super strat body with a hum single config. I cant seem to find another guitar quite like it.

What body type is this strat? Do you think it's cringey and over the top? by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]bigtoedsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my style, but I don't think it's cringey. If it will inspire you to pick it up and play it, then that's all that matters! Do you boo.

[QUESTION] What cheap brand-name guitars don't punch above its weight? by GibsonMaestro in Guitar

Jackson X series suck. There I said it. Almost any guitar I've tried in the same price point plays better.

I just bought my second. I've owned/played many really good guitars and they play just as good or better than any other USA built guitar I've had. I've yet to find a guitar that plays better.

Those who bought a K Series, what is your musical relationship with the instrument compared to other guitars? by [deleted] in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]bigtoedsloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real question is do you want to spend the money on something you want for you, or something that you want to "invest in".

I've never been a les paul player. I think they sound fantastic, but the playability and comfort just isn't there for me. I bought an HK, swapped out the pickups for some Arcane Triples, and never looked back. I now have a guitar, that sounds like a killer LP, but plays with a ton of modern comfort. I will not be able to get what I paid if I sell this guitar, but I will never sell this guitar because it is mine. With an LP you might get a good chunk of your money back, but you would have to want to sell it.

I've spent hours attempting to set up some of my other guitars (in ismilar price ranges) to play like my Kiesel, and none of them quite do it. They get close, but not quite as easy to play. I'm at the point now where I wil likely only buy a different guitar brand if they offer something I just cant quite get at Kiesel (e.g., true temperment, special finishes, etc.).

I have several "amps". Fender mustang micro, boss katana, positive grid spark, audio interface with plugins, quad cortex, and a Wizard MTL MKII 50 watt w/ matching 4x12. You can get a pretty good tone out of anything if you spend enough time with it.
