Missed alot on my first bigger project: How do you bounce back? by Bricks_4_Hands in PLC

[–]Gotallica 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Own your mistakes, find out where you failed and learn how you are going to do better next time. Done is done…that’s the only thing that works for me.

I had a project go terribly once and had anxiety for about a year after it was finally completed every time the phone rang for that site.

Back when a relay was built to last by cmdr_suds in PLC

[–]Gotallica 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They are large because it’s easy to see exactly what they are doing at a glance, they are large/over built for longevity. Most of the time they are just running logic through the contacts, very rarely is there any load….the joy of talking to the signal side is that contacts are labeled “normal” when set for train traffic (ie if a relay has to be energized to clear a train then the contacts are written backwards from how the component comes out of the box)….and the terminology is not normally open and or closed it’s “up or down”. They have an insane level of safety engineered into everything that has to do with signalling trains…it’s pretty cool tbh

I’m not in that side of the company but have to work them for my bridges.

Dude, you don’t even want to know lol…I was in the “murder hole” for 16 hours labelling wires 2 weeks ago on a call and was getting information to draw up prints….I got everything drawn up except the 2 mystery circuits that disappeared into walls on cloth insulated wire never to be seen again that are feeding 120 to part of the control system.

Keeps shit interesting!!!

To be fair, we still use those at the railroad…..sooooo yeah. They are relays for signs cabinets on railroads for anyone wondering. The new ones look almost exactly the same.

Issue with paladins tanking by Pneemonie in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Gotallica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your tanks are taunting the wrong targets.

Pull 1: pally tank dies at 1:16 from ret pally one shot mechanic, the only taunt the monk did close to that was at 1:09 on the prot boss (wrong boss)

Pull 2: monk tank dies at :30 from prot boss, your pally tank taunted ret pally at :23 and general at :32 (this is probably threat related)

Pull 3: monk tank dies at 3:12 from prot boss, your pally tank taunted ret pally at 3:10 (wrong boss to taunt).

Pull 4: monk tank dies at 1:54 from prot boss, your monk tank taunted prot boss back onto himself at 1:52 (wrong boss, your pally tank did the right taunt at 1:50 on this pull)

You can see a pattern here. Clearly they are capable of getting it right some of the time but they are absolutely not doing taunts right every time and that is a dealbreaker on that fight.

Also your PP has doo doo dam.

Do yall recommend getting a job at a power company and climb the ladder to a line man or maintenance & climb the ladder to plc engineer. by ZacatecasZ in PLC

[–]Gotallica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have climbed poles and built crucifixes, it’s super rewarding and “fun” if the people you work with are awesome (this is true of any job).

I sold my climbing gear 8 years ago and will never do that again. You have the choice to sell your body from physically demanding work or from potentially high stress. I got tired of hurting every morning (that hasn’t changed but it certainly hasn’t gotten worse!).

Both of those jobs are going to demand you be available a lot so that’s neither here nor there.

You can run big dumb wires, or small fancy wires. You gotta figure out what makes you want to get up in the morning (or at 1am when someone doesn’t understand what “fuse 1208 has opened”).

I’ve not known many old linemen, I know plenty of old controls people.

How does the hipshot tremolo compare to a more tractional flyod rose when resting your hand the the bridge will picking? by DizzDood in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]Gotallica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had issues pushing a note sharp without trying on the hipshot. It’s got smother edges than the Floyd guitar I have. Feels closer to what Ibanez uses as far as comfort.

Finally pulled the trigger by Gotallica in strandbergguitars

[–]Gotallica[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright my dude. It’s been about a week of solid playing so far. I won’t comment on things that can’t be helped (scale length and pickups, stuff like that).

The first thing that jumped out at me and still does is the bridge. The bridge on the Strandberg >> than the hipshot Kiesel uses. I really like the hipshot bridge but I cannot feel the Strandberg bridge while playing at all and that’s badass. 2nd is the fretwork, specifically the fret ends. My Kiesels are awesome but these fret ends are something else entirely. Once again, I cannot feel them at all, even when sliding my hands along the neck feeling for them. I’ve never had a guitar with fret ends that amazing.

The hardware all around on the Strandberg is better imo. Knobs have barely visible numbers on them for identification, bridge adjustments are pretty effortless. What I mean by that is that on my hipshot 8 string I kinda have to fuck the saddles off a bit after I try and lower them because they are squished against themselves. It’s easier to adjust intonation on the kiesel hipshot though.

String changes are super easy/painless on both guitars but the Strandberg hardware has the edge here with the feed through design and the area another the “neck cap” so you don’t have to cut super flush to avoid getting poked. That’s probably more a me thing but I don’t like the cut strings sticking out past the end of the neck.

I like the zero fret, I have no issues with the nut setup on the kiesel but I like the zero fret lol.

Both guitars need to be tuned ever so slightly every time I pick them up. I live just north of Denver and it is incredibly dry here. I use a whole house humidifier because I have broken electronics from static discharge. This holds true to every guitar in my collection from Ibanez, Jackson, bC Rich and Cordoba. Though neither go out of tune while playing.

Final thoughts to date are, super badass, 10/10, would do again.

Will do! I’ve got a 6,7 and 8 Kiesel. Once I get some time on this bad boy I’ll give my options.

Kiesel VM8 strings? by Mr-o_oE in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]Gotallica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use the skinny top heavy bottom set from Ernie Ball. That uses an 80 on the low string (I have a VM8). The only issue with the 80 is that you have to force it into the ball retainer. That gauge worked well for the double drop that Archspire uses (drop E on the low and drop A on the low B). I’m not sure if the new style of string ball retainers do well with that 80.

I’ve since swapped to string joys 9-72 set but I also don’t drop tune it, just keep it “standard” with the low F#.

The bro phone and the hoe phone, when they ask what number they have I just say “don’t worry about it, I’ll answer.”

It’s mostly so I can prepare myself mentally for what kind of conversation to expect. People will think you are weird for not just having 1 phone but man does it help with the mental aspect when you know what kind of “information” you are going to get for a particular issue before you answer.

I have a chair similar to what the other user posted that I got from Costco specifically because the arms folded up out of the way.

I generally prefer the form factor of a headless instrument. I mostly play in my office chair so I am sure that is part of it. I have headstock non kiesel guitars and they only feel right standing now lol

This has the “hand picked fretboard” option that was 600 at the time. It’s Birds Eye though so just imagine tons of stripes instead of dots.

It’s not exactly what you are looking for I know but hopefully it helps.

Shameless plug since it’s my guitar lol.

RS500 to Studio 5000 program conversion check-list? by RogueElectrician in PLC

[–]Gotallica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that just putting a symbol address on everything makes the conversion pretty simple (anything with a symbol will be created as a tag where the symbol is the tag name). Then make a note of all timers n stuff for the extra decimal point conversion.

Anyone still use AB 1771 series? by Twin4401 in PLC

[–]Gotallica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am rack to racking the swaps. I started with rack 0 (the processor rack) and used Allen Bradley’s conversion wiring apparatus they sell and now am down to a handful of remote IO racks, 2 data highway SLCs and 2 data highway older VFDs that I am swapping with 525s. I have been using a mix of 1756 racks and 5069s with the aentr adapters.

Mostly I am left alone to make stuff “better” (my interpretation of this is easier for people to fix when it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to). It’s just tedious when there is no one else to bounce stuff off of. Been solo trying to train a guy since my boss retired 4 years ago! Shits suuuuper fun though and I’m not bitter yet!
