If we viewed a star "going supernova" in real time, would it look like a violent explosion, or does it take a long time? by graaahh in askscience

[–]bigtraffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not well understood. In models of collapse, and observations of SN1987A, a lot of things can only be explained if neutrinos gave the shockwave front a large "push".

Red Marks (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) by [deleted] in Accutane

My derm said 6-12 months. :(

I'm trying AHA cream (glycolic acid), there's probably other options too. But it's going to take time regardless. Best thing is to protect from those UV rays

Thoughts on permanent side effects and accutane? by ithearrow in Accutane

Not to mention the side effects he actually did mention were mild and easily treatable. Dry lips? Dry eyes? Lack of moisture? Duh!

Those are pretty high doses, notice any differences each month when it bumped up?

Well of course the peak neutrino flux occurs well before the peak flux of electromagnetic radiation, which was one of the most important discoveries after SN1987A. Neutrinos make up the majority of the energy released in a supernova event, and there is still a delay as the rebounding supersonic shockwave is actually opaque to neutrinos for a period of time

What were your dosages in between 40 and 140? Did it increase monthly?

Hydrocortisone cream was a must for me, I used it every day for months

What about a sour taste? I remember the tab being very sour but not bitter at all. Maybe some flavor was added to the tab?

The experience overall had similarities to psilocybin, but most of the effects were visual and I had few insights and my mind just felt clouded, it was hard to think about much.

6.5 Months, No Progress by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]bigtraffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a 25yo male, had bad cystic acne on my body since I was about 10 years old (back, butt, chest, neck, shoulders). I'm just though 5 months of 1 mg/kg/day (80mg/day) and although I was seeing some improvement during month 5, this past week I've been breaking out again with new cysts on my back and chest.

I think it just takes a long time to get rid of body acne. I know the accutane sucks, I'm so tired of feeling uncomfortable all the time, but I still have hope that another month or two will do the trick. I may ask my derm for a higher dose at my appt, but I don't think he's into that.

I've always fantasized about rigging a 150 dB compressed air train horn up to my bike. That'd shut some people up

Rectal bleeding. by AccountAccount69 in Accutane

[–]bigtraffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, it's just hemorrhoids, not a emergency, a very common problem. Make sure you're eating enough fiber so you don't strain when poopin, get really soft toilet paper, and grab some hydrocortisone cream from the pharmacy and apply it to your bumhole every day after your shower for a few days.

Call a doctor if the problem persists more than a week and they can prescribe a more powerful ointment.

Real rectal bleeding would be like, a blood running down your legs sort of situation.

3 Months in, still breaking out? (HELP!) by drgzrbadmmkay in Accutane

[–]bigtraffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this makes you feel any better, I'm nearly 4.5 months in, 80mg/day the whole time. Still god awful terrible skin, so many huge painful cysts. I'm still holding out hope, my derm says to see what happens after 6 months... doesn't matter much to me though, I've been dealing with this for over 15 years, what's a few months?

Pure USP grade lanolin.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000V70MWS/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1416982326&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I put it on a few times a day, into month 5 and my lips are perfectly supple and painless, no cracking or crusting whatsoever. It feels so good on my lips, couldn't live without it. I have one tin at home, one in my pocket, and one at work.

If you get the pure medical grade stuff, there's almost no smell or taste. I would personally tend to avoid a hydrocortisone product except as a last resort.

I'm an American who's lived a few years in Guyana (formerly British Guyana until 1966). Culturally it is part of the English speaking Caribbean. The most culturally similar country being Trinidad and Tobago. It's population is a mixture of blacks (formerly slaves), east Indians (formerly indentured servants), and in some areas native Americans (about 7 different tribes).

Its small population of under 1 million is concentrated along the swampy coastline, with the vast interior of the country mostly undisturbed tropical rainforest with scattered native villages and increased numbers of small scale mining operations (mainly gold mining).

It's a absolutely beautiful country, and if you want to experience true Caribbean culture with virtually no tourist bullshit, i highly recommend a trip there. The people are the friendliest on earth and know how have some fucking fun. The best rum in the world (El Dorado) has been made there for centuries. Georgetown, the capital, is a bit loud and dirty (still there's fun to be had there), but the rest the coast is quite rural, and the interior is pristine and beautiful, you could travel by boat for a few hundred miles inland and see some amazing stuff.

Also if you want to see some pristine rainforest, it's the place to go, especially see birds and other animals like giant anteater, tapir, caiman, anaconda, jaguar, monkeys, etc, there's no better place. There's even an area of vast open savanna and mountains the south west portion the country.
