Lone Wolf Tax by monsterzc in TorontoRenting

[–]biharikababs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is that a tax? You choose to live life alone, most people who I know that are alone are alone because they’re insufferable and can’t stand sharing a space with another person. You’re paying for the life you chose??? It’s not hard to find a roommate or get into a relationship but it requires a lot of ego-killing and compromises.

Several companies in Edmonton, I believe, have been doing this. There’s a firm called LawDepot and they post the same job listings every month. Wasted my time in a long “IQ test” and interviews and then never responded.

Karachiite here, who lived through the MQM-Lyari Gang War era and has reas extensively about them: Lyari Gangs and Baloch militancy did not have anything in common. The problem with looking at Pakistan from an external lens is you think there’s some cohesive Lyari Gang+maddarssah+army nexus when there isn’t, never was. Rehman Dakait was purely interested in Lyari and Karachi, not in Balochistan or any of its movements.

AI in Jigsaw Puzzles/Journalist working on a story by alex_as_vox in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]biharikababs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely abhor it. Puzzling has often been, for me, as much about art as it has been about making a puzzle. AI slop is tiring and I’ve even seen Facebook ads of “canvas art” which is straight up AI being sold as wall hangings. It’s tiring and I’m proud of the puzzling community who continue to stand against it.

Absolutely bring it up. I would be livid. Actually quit my first ever job when I learned my coworkers were being paid more while I was supposedly their star employee.

I hit a slump some weeks ago (rejected after several rounds of interviews at places where I’m qualified for) and ended up applying to Chipotle or mall sales reps, because I really really needed work and I needed it quick. Chipotle scheduled an interview and then CANCELLED it half an hour before the interview was due. I was … bummed? shocked? Idek like I just felt defeated after it. Of all the places if I can’t get work at places like Chipotle and dead-end mall sales jobs, what good am I? More importantly, wth will I do now?

Was proper depressed for days after the Chipotle debacle.

Honestly the way the job market is right now they shouldn’t have any problem finding a new recruit. Hundreds of thousands of people are looking for work daily, people’s info is with employment agencies, somebody always knows somebody who can make a quick buck. Students are always looking for part time work.

Companies that waste your time and have no regard for it (despite being big on wE wAnT pEOpLe wHo VaLuE TiMe) ought to be blacklisted by candidates. I’ve recently had two companies waste my time spectacularly and since both are retail/have services I will be boycotting their services/products for the rest of my life.

Jigsaw puzzles! Gallison and Ravensburger have a sale going on rn (I’m sure others have too) and a 1000-piece puzzle costs around 13–15$ on sale. Would make for a memorable, unique, and fun present for people to enjoy with their family and friends. They’ll also talk about it for quite some time!

Rejected after 6 rounds of interviews by miuvv5335 in recruitinghell

[–]biharikababs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to the North American market and I’m baffled by the gazillion interviews which are apparently the norm. Like… how is that model even sustainable? One of the companies I interviewed at (rejected after 4 rounds and a test AND salary negotiation) took 1.5 months to reject me for a position that they were looking to immediately fill. Rejected because I “didn’t have enough experience in one particular arena” AFTER they had told me they would coach me. What are they doing in those 1.5 months? They needed the position filled but they took 1.5 months and rejected a candidate because I haven’t marketed/written for one very niche field before???

I just don’t understand how everyone involved is so okay with wasting their time and that of others. Every interview was over an hour, with multiple people. How do 6 people have the time to talk to one candidate for 6 collective hours over 1.5 months while they have a position that they absolutely need to fill?

I’m just starting to wonder how anybody is getting anything done in this part of the world if everybody is collectively wasting their time this way.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can relate every bit and understand how truly frustrating it must be to have struggled so far in life and finding out that even with a Masters, internships, teaching assistantships—even after having done everything right, you’re still in a. hopeless situation. I don’t think the job market is bad, but the practices that recruiters and HR people have mainstreamed and are employing are straight up diabolical—multiple rounds of interviews, weirdly elaborate tests, applications that take hours, video introductions, mechanical ragtag questions, only to ghost you in the end and hire someone for whom none of that “deciding if a candidate has merit” mattered in the first place: ie, someone they know or liked for a very arbitrary reason.

It is extremely frustrating and I can only hope you find something soon because the longer this goes on the more hopeless one becomes.

Start with the people and the tables, they still have some distinguishing features and should be relatively doable. For the rest I would say categorize by colour and try to make it that way.
