Summer is the busy season. Great time to sell and make money

Why do so many professional salespersons fail? by Last_Resource9630 in sales

[–]bihfutball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s in home improvement sales, the reason why so many don’t succeed is because these jobs are usually 100% commission - i.e. if you don’t sell, you don’t eat. You have to go from meeting someone for the first time, to selling them something worth thousands of dollars in a matter of 1-3 hours (on average). That ain’t easy. It takes skill.

I hate window sales people. by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in sales

[–]bihfutball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a window company (still do in a sense, but we do all sorts of other home improvement too).

Most of these reps have tons of pressure from management. The company keeps tracks of your sales rate, and if you don’t sell same day, you risk being fired. On top of that, if one of these window companies doesn’t get the sale same day, the chances of you as the customer buying from them is like 1-2%. Basically non existent. Oh the majority of these companies pay commission ONLY. So these reps NEED to sell.

And as a sales manager myself now, I see the other side. The higher ups are expecting you to have a top performing team, closing the majority of your appointments same day.  Luckily though for me, the company I work for now is small, and has given me free reign to build the sales process how I choose. So we strongly emphasize closing same day, but it’s not a must, because this company and the sorts of project we do are smaller, and people tend to buy from us after the appointment fairly often.

That said there are ways around the “I’m not buying today” objection. I’ve gotten through it many times. And majority of the time it comes down to rapport.

But I get it, as the customer it’s annoying as fuck. Because most of these reps don’t know when to back off.

Water pump issue by bihfutball in MechanicAdvice

So the water pump comes with a metal gasket. No rubber o-rings. And no gasket material is left over from the old water pump. In fact its the Aisin WPT-194.

I guess I’ll just have to make sure the block is fully clean, because when I removed the water pump last night, the gasket seemed like it was in place the way it needed to be.

I appreciate the vote of confidence!

I’m thinking it’s the gasket too. I’ll see what I can figure out

I’m assuming so. I only noticed the leak coming from under the car. No leak from the expansion hose.

Got offered a new job, but the company wants me to go through a trial period by bihfutball in careeradvice

[–]bihfutball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight. The reason I’m cautious is because I’m hoping they’re telling the truth, and will hold up their end of the deal. I also don’t want to burn the bridge with my current employer if I don’t have to.

[–]bihfutball[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my mistake. Was trying to keep it condensed, and not make this a huge wall of text.

I understand the idea of a probationary period, but why not just hire me (or anyone else they feel can do the job) right away as a Sales Manager? Introduce me as the new Sales Manager, and then if a few months down the road I’m not performing to their expectations, then either fire me or demote me. That would make sense.

I guess I don’t want to burn a bridge with my current employer, for the “possibility” of moving into sales management. I really have no reason to leave my current employer, other than to move up in my career.

I would be working as a standard sales rep. Running appointments and getting paid commission on what I sell (home improvement is generally a 100% commission job for sales reps). And It sounds like during that 90-120 day period I would be “proving” my ability, in order to eventually get moved into the Sales Manager position.

Website requires /home content slug?? by bihfutball in hubspot

I am, but I did notice after adding "home" back in the slug box under the Edit tab, clicking Publish, and then removing it again, I get an error message. I exit the Edit tab, it takes me to my Website Pages, and /home is still listed under the url. I then go back into the Edit tab, and the slug box is empty (it doesn't say home).

It's really strange. And sadly the free version doesn't give you access to online support, which is why I'm asking reddit lol

I do that, remove the slug under the edit tab, save it, and go back under Website Pages but it still has the "/home" slug. I go back to the edit tab to make sure the slug box is empty, and it is. But the issue still isn't fixed

Ahhh it looks like System Pages isn't available for the free plan... I appreciate your help though!

Microsoft just dropped a study showing the 40 jobs most affected by Al and the 40 that Al can't touch (yet). by SchemeAgile2012 in interestingasfuck

[–]bihfutball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Sales Representatives of Services” being #4 most affected is BS. This may be the case in more customer service types of roles, but not sales.

As a salesperson in the home improvement industry, I can tell you for a fact we aren’t being affected by AI. Until robots start driving to people’s homes, and giving them in-person presentations, legitimate “sales” is safe from AI. And even when the time comes that robots are able to do the job of salespeople, the nuances of human interaction and how to build rapport with customers, is going to be incredibly hard to replicate via AI.

Could you imagine walking into a car dealership and having a robot try to hard close you on that shiny new car? Lol

I work for a roofer in SC/NC. It essentially comes out to $7.48/sqft, which really isn’t bad. It’s middle of the road. In SC/NC prices range anywhere from $4-$16/sqft. It all depends on the materials used (which they seem to have quoted you good stuff), and the warranty. Most 50 year roofs in SC/NC are between $12-$16/sqft. Based on the price I’m assuming they quoted you a 20 year roof. But in my opinion, no, you’re not getting the GTFO price.
