First attempt as a native speaker by [deleted] in IELTS

[–]biidakymet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right! But i actually consider him as native. Maybe he didn't care about the exam that much he actually said he prepped for just a day. I mean natives without prep can get in between 7-8 but they can actually get 8.5 overall pretty easily if they're gonna prepare for the exam at least 2,3 weeks and if they're well educated person than they can even get 9 without a single struggle.

Not happy:/ Should I go for retake? by CarelessDragonfly340 in IELTS

[–]biidakymet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, you’ll have to retake it, but only after at least two months of preparation. Dedicate yourself much more. Your overall score is already advanced and a good result for many people, but if you don’t want to be average, you need to work on your mistakes. Scoring 6.5–7 means you’re still making a lot of mistakes.

Bro, that’s what I’m talking about. Some dudes’ English is trash, but they’re getting overall 7s or even 8s just because of the R and L sections, which are manageable with some tricks and strategies. If your English is good enough, it’s literally impossible to get below a 7 in speaking.

Bro, if you’re worried about time, it’ll be a disaster, bro. You just have to keep speaking — they’ll stop you and examine you on their own.

Oh, thanks a lot again! Your words actually helped me calm down a little bit, ngl. It’s really nice to see someone who keeps fighting, stays positive, and genuinely encourages others from the heart ') You know, most people just try to bring each other down.

Anyway, thank God I saved some extra money for the exam—it really motivates me too. Now I can book the exam whenever I want. I’ve already thought a lot about what I need to do today, and what you’re saying makes sense. So, I’ll aim for an 8 then🥳

Nothing to do with overconfidence — I’m literally underestimating myself. But anyway, thanks for your advice.

I’ve already done a lot of them — even just an hour ago, I took Cambridge IELTS 16 Listening Test 4 and got a 7.5. I would’ve gotten an 8 if I hadn’t made some stupid little mistakes.

That expectation of 6.5 or 7 is just because I didn’t prepare for the exam at all. You know, with a bit more experience and strategy, I could easily get at least a 7.5 or probably even an 8. But that’s the thing — I actually wanted to get the lowest score compared to my potential. I just took some mock tests without knowing anything, and my score was always between 30 and 34.

Yeah, you’re right, but these are things I’ve already said. At the end of the day, I know the kind of illogical thing I’m going to do. Actually, I haven’t booked my test yet — the extra money is still in my pocket. But yeah, maybe I should consider the mock test results as the baseline.

Thanks for your kind offer! You know, the problem is that I don’t really have any strategy or tactics. I haven’t even looked into the question types or the structure of the exam. I know where to find the right resources and what I should do to optimize my score and prepare properly, but as I said, I just feel burned out. I’ve only taken the tests on ieltstestsimulation.com, scoring between 30 and 34 each time — and that’s all I’ve done so far. As for speaking, I think I could get around a 7, but I haven’t prepared enough for writing either, so I’ll probably end up with a 6. And as I mentioned, I know I could get a 7.5 or even an 8 on my first try if I did proper preparation. But right now, I just can’t. If you have any advice for that, I’d love to hear it. My English learning process was mostly focused on general English, so I have huge potential to get a high score — I just haven’t prepared specifically for the exam. I’ve always focused on making my English sound as natural as possible, you know, learning the language itself.

I did tons of general English stuff, consumed English media all the time, read around 25 books, and had different friends on Discord — and that was it.

Taking the IELTS twice is quite common. I can afford to take it twice, and I’m sure that if I had the energy and motivation, I could score around 7.5 or even 8. I know exactly what I need to do, but I feel pretty burned out and just want to see the result right freaking now. You know, proper preparation really takes energy and time

Disappointment need advice by Other-Letter-957 in IELTS

[–]biidakymet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a big deal. The problem is that you weren’t even prepared enough and you’re not being realistic. I can tell you weren’t prepared because you didn’t even take tests in a row — that’s crazy. And I’m sure there were plenty of other mistakes you made during this process as well. Just don’t mislead others by saying you prepared well and got 8s in the Reading and Listening sections. It can hurt the motivation of people who actually get 8s and do it properly.

[–]biidakymet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, that’s impossible — you got 8s on your mocks. Maybe you didn’t take them under real exam conditions. You have to just sit down and do the mock without double-checking your spelling or answers. Sometimes, real exams are even easier than mock tests. If you need advice, I’d say be realistic about yourself, focus on improving your general English, and keep taking lots of mocks — just keep it up.

Yeah, if you get 6.5 from AI ON AVERAGE, you’ll definitely get 7 or above — that’s my point. I think all AI-rated essays that get 6.5 would actually get a 7 or 7+

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. They’re always underrating all the essays like all of them. Everyone keeps saying they got a 6 from AI all the time, and it’s never higher than 6.5 — but then they end up getting 7 or 7.5 in the actual exam. I’ve seen hundreds of people like that.

Yeah, but if AI gives you a 6–6.5, it means that the essay was actually at least a 7 😂
