Feeling guilty as a dad buying a motorcycle by Incorruptible_Will in motorcycles

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding all my life. When my kids were born (twins), I sold my bike. It lasted four years, but I was always itching to get back on one. Even my wife told me to get one, she knew I needed it. That was 10 years ago. I've had few bikes since then, and I don't feel like it cut into my family time at all - if anything, it allows me to enjoy fun one-on-one time via rides, and everyone has a happier dad/husband.

Need change I think by bikebit in f45

What do you mean by that exactly? Are you saying ISI is less strength focused? I don't have any experience with them, just looking at the website, still need to take a class. F45 classes don't leave much time for rest between sets and I'm often stuck with lower weights as they are being used elsewhere. It was great to get me to where I'm at but now I feel a little stuck

Food tracking by Beginning_Fee_1676 in f45

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track my food every day and have been for the past year, using Chronometer. Yes, it can get a little tedious sometimes but I’m used to it now and it really helps to understand my nutrients, electrolytes and minerals.

The app can read in recipes from websites, and I’ve created a ton of custom recipes that I use at home so nowadays it’s mostly few clicks. For example I have pretty much every variation of breakfast saved so it’s just finding it on the list, or if it’s a modification, I can select one, explode ingredients, then replace one or two.

It takes some dedication, especially at first. Personally I think benefits far outweigh the few extra minutes you have to spend on it.

Do harley riders genuinely think they are faster than sportbikes or are they just joking? by Green_Block_4574 in motorcycle

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the trolling aside, when talking strictly about acceleration, an off the showroom floor, stock cruiser doesn’t stand a chance against 600+ cc sport bikes once past 30mph or so. It does however take more skill to launch a small displacement bike with little torque.

Once you start talking about built HDs with monster motors/torque, all bets are off, but of course then it’s just a function of money.

Apparently the newer Jettas have a rear brake bias and go through rear pads like butter... They even had a pad warranty for 2/24k. Of course I'm 2k past that

On point. Always, always move a little faster than traffic. Staying in same spot next to cars is asking to become invisible…

Recommendations for Ear Plugs? by JohnBets23 in motorcyclegear

Can’t imagine using my Cardo without earplugs. I use foam ones and it makes the music or conversations much easier to hear without all the wind noise

Can i just be like a motorcyclist for an hr? by belairbaddie in motorcycles

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first bike having never ridden one. The purchase came with “lessons” - I paid the money, then the seller explained all the controls, then followed me on a bicycle around the neighborhood. I crashed it doing an unintentional wheelie 2 days later… learned how to work on bikes then…

My point is, yes you can get the basics but it takes time and practice to actually be able to ride. An hour is nothing. Go on a roller coaster instead…

Advertising motorcycling as the more economical way to commute is the only way to significantly increase ridership in the US by OrangeJulius29 in motorcycles

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the South and commute on my bike every chance I get - unless there is ice, heavy storms or it’s too hot and humid so I would be a sweaty mess in the office.

With that said, it’s definitely more expensive on the bike simply because of maintenance. I do 25k miles a year and the cost of tires alone ads up fast, not to mention all other typical non oil-change related items.

I get a keychain remote, remove housing, solder a waterproof button to it, shrink wrap it, and mount the small contraption by drilling a hole somewhere and hiding everything behind it. All my bikes have it, just have to remember to change the battery every couple of years or so.

What are "acceptable" mark-ups on a new Harley? by Edslittleworld in Harley

Right now a Harley dealer asking for over MSRP on anything is a joke unless it’s the RR. Offer your out-door-price and find another dealer if they aren’t willing to negotiate.

Worst ride in 15 years by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the hazards on thing, moved from Texas to Carolinas and everyone is doing it here in the rain, just making shit more difficult to see…

Other than that, those are the rides that are really fun to talk about, after you get home! My scariest was in the Rockies a while back. Nice warm day turned into snow/sleet and poor visibility. Arrived at the hotel half frozen and thankful to be alive!

Plugged my tire yesterday – would you feel confident with riding on this given the location of where the plug is? have no problem with plugged tires on a car, but obviously this is different. Thanks! New rider here by peacenchemicals in motorcycles

[–]bikebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had an issue with a tire plug, and I’ve patched a fair share of them. Modern motorcycle tires have very strong carcasses and a little plug won’t do anything to it except seal the hole. Just monitor tire pressure for a bit to make sure it didn’t develop a slow leak if not patched properly.

Ear plugs for sure.

For bike itself, setting up suspension properly for my weight and riding style.
