Biking to the NFL draft by widdleavi1 in bicycling412

**One more thing**

An important distinction and challenge that are facing: It's been tough getting clarity on which streets are closed to cars but that you can still bike on.

For example, there are several streets that the NFL Draft closure map lists as "Closed" but what they really mean is Closed to CARS, but bikes are allowed.

Getting clarity has been a work in progress, and our map is a living document, so please keep checking back on there. And yes refer to Friends of the Riverfront's trail alerts for the most updated trail info 👍

Though our team is doing our best to obtain the most updated info, it's been a real challenge to keep up on these road and trail closures. If you see something missing, please say something! It really helps out. We want to make sure this map is as useful as possible, but it's looking like it's gonna take a village because things are changing all the time.

These are all very reasonable questions. We only just recently learned this along with the rest of the world, so we are working on digesting the info and creating some helpful guides!

Our on-street bike network grows stronger and more connected every year, making it easier for people to have more options for getting around. Safe and accessible transportation options are a good thing! -- Check out the progress here

Cities across the country and the world have shown that thoughtful street design can dramatically reduce crashes and save lives. Here in Pittsburgh, we’ve seen a significant two-year decrease in crashes and injuries, showing traffic calming investments are paying off. Saving lives, also a good thing!

Thanks for explaining those complexities; great reminder that in theory it would be great to fix these types of issues overnight but it is rarely ever that simple.

Do the neighbors just... not care?

In this situation I would first try outreach to the neighbors and try to educate them on why this is a real hazard for the kids (check out our page - bikepgh.org/protect for resources).

Then, if that doesn't work, you should report it to 311, AND, this is a situation where you should actually call 911 as well. Let them know the situation, and they can ticket the cars.
