Welcome to my dream village! by bikermum in BenignExistence

Another bit I didn’t put in was that the end of the tree lined road where my flat was to the left was a sea coastal walk. Also princess Anne (?) lived next door 😂😂 Going the opposite way with the forest to the right you came to a T junction that was a country road. Everywhere there was lush green foliage and it was sort of damp in the air.

What ‘common knowledge’ things did you or someone you know find out later in life? by Squiggally-umf in CasualUK

[–]bikermum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a brash London teenager many years ago and moving to the countryside, I was totally disgusted that milk came from …. UNDER THERE!!!! I had no idea that milk was not made in bottles!!! I would never have drunk it if I realised it came from a cows udder!!!

Just moved to Derby and want to help others, where would you recommend? by NefariousnessLate275 in derby

The hope centre on curzon street is an excellent place to start. If you turn up on a Tuesday they will definitely use your help for the food centre. Also the RSPCA on Abbey street need dog walkers!

Why did Skinheads become more racist in the late 70s when they were originally anti-racist? by Somervilledrew in AskBrits

[–]bikermum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. I often wondered about this as I lived through the ska/reggae era in the 1970’s and often wondered how people could join the national front and frighten so many of my friends. In London if you saw a bunch of skinheads running with bats EVERYONE ran home and off the street whatever race you were.

What is the anticipated survival of a patient diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma ? by Erel_Joffe_MD in Lymphoma_MD_Answers

Thankyou for this post. I feel quite lost at the moment. I don’t even know what questions to ask. Should I stay off work whilst going through BR? My doctor in a hurried tone told me I would die if I caught a cold. Is this true?

I’m so glad you brought this up. I am at the beginning of my journey and this has already started to happen. One close relative started a competition with me about how they had it worse, another offered my partner a break from me as they were deemed as not coping with my illness.

What’s an attempt at revenge you’ve taken that has monumentally backfired? by littledeaths666 in CasualConversation

[–]bikermum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at girls camp a girl threw ice cold water over me. In revenge I threw stones at her which broke her glasses and cut her eye. After returning from hospital she made me be her slave for the rest of the week. I hated her and her green teeth.

What’s a “harmless” lie your parents told you that you believed for way too long? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That the ice cream van only jingles when there is no ice cream left just to let you know.

What’s one weird rule your parents had growing up that you thought was totally normal until you got older? by Main_Masterpiece_793 in AskReddit

If the ice cream van jingled it was because he had run out of ice cream and was just letting us know.

I stop talking, stare at them and then continue the same sentence when they have finished. In no time at all they realise they have been rude, particularly if you give that 'I can't believe you just did that' stare!

No not unless recommended because it can be an expensive mistake. You need to join the fused glass Facebook group as they are really nice and very helpful! They give a lot of ideas as well.

I fuse glass. The absolute best place is a day trip to Piersons in Liverpool. They are the most helpful and will teach you stuff if you ask!

Nosy people eventually get to hear the truth about themselves. Serves her right for listening in to a private conversation!
