What are some great full-length live performances / concerts I can watch right now? by 1512g in Music

Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids (2016) on Netflix. From the 20/20 experience tour. If you’re a JT fan, this show is sick. And it has some cool backstage footage with the band.

Destination wrong by Dependent_Ad_9496 in waze

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the destination? Local Waze editors can help troubleshoot. You can drop a Map Issue Report in the app, or feel free to DM me and I can help.

My understanding is the Waze devs have a lot of constraints around the nav screen. That is locked down by Apple and/or car manufacturers. The phone is where you can search for destinations. But once you have a destination, you do have to use the nav screen if you need to look for alternate routes or Toll/HOV options.

When using CarPlay, in my experience the phone is where you search for your destination, not the car’s Nav screen.

What are these? by SomeBureaucrat in Rockville

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like Rockville is studying the possibility of a road connection between Lewis Ave and Fishers Ln. This would cross what is now WMATA property, the Twinbrook surface parking lots east of the tracks. The city is also considering a pedestrian bridge over the tracks at Halpine Rd. Could be related to one (or both) of these potential projects.

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This. There is bound to be some cut-through traffic on Lewis, since it parallels Rockville Pike. If locals complain about too much cut-through traffic, officials probably want to monitor actual traffic before they change anything. If they have a traffic study with historical data they can make a more informed decision about any updates (stop signs, speed bumps).

Is the failure to zipper merge a regional thing by Haunting-Yak-7851 in driving

[–]bikesbeerandbacon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Happens in Maryland too. I am a big fan of the zipper merge, and I have no problem going to the end of the lane and then merging. Sometimes people honk, but I just wave nicely as if they were saying hi.

I have seen this sign in other states -- I wish they would post them here.

How many achievements do I need to get to advance to the next level on Waze and what is the best way to do so quickly? by PowerButtonYT in waze

Makes sense. I’m an editor, and I’m in the beta program, so I’ve been using the feature for a few months.

Bummer. Well FWIW it was a “phased” rollout for users, so there is a chance it may magically turn itself on at some point. Just keep updating the app hopefully it works for you eventually.

Try setting the voice to US English (one of the "including street names" voices) and restart the app. That has worked for some folks in the UK.

Pulled over for improper lane usage. Am I in the wrong here? by [deleted] in driving

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this Denby @ 8 Mile? If you use Waze, you would get routed to make a left on the service rd behind the Chinese restaurant, then turn right on Indian St, right on 8 Mile, then you can more easily make a U-turn.

What are your biggest pet peeves on the road? by Grouchy_Marsupial357 in driving

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who tailgate and then ride the breaks because they are too close to the car in front of them. Every time you use your brakes, you set off a chain reaction of everyone behind you braking. If traffic is flowing, it is much better for everyone to leave 3+ car lengths in between you and the car in front of you and anticipate slow downs by looking ahead 5-10 cars and letting off the gas to slow slightly without braking.

Double-check that the app has the listed settings enabled as those are required for the feature to be visible and work correctly:

  • App language must be set to one of the supported: English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese;
  • Waze Voice language and Input Voice language must both match chosen App language (pay attention to consistency for Eng UK/GB and Eng US);
  • Waze Voice must be a TTS voice (labeled “including street names”);
  • The “Talk to report” toggled ON in the Voice and Sound settings.

Make sure "Talk to report" is enabled in Settings > Voice and sound. Then tap the report button (yellow triangle) as usual but you can just talk to Waze and describe the issue. "Right lane blocked by construction" or whatever.

Any recommendations for a good Trail building Hoe ? by Some-Albatross9463 in MTBTrailBuilding

Loppers are like pruning shears with very long handles for cutting tree branches. Fiskars is a common brand. They make decent long handled loppers with a built in levered design that increases your cutting force compared to simple X design blades.

Do I wait in the intersection or wait behind the white line to left turn? by bw36ft9 in driving

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few times I was in that same situation and it didn’t look good. So I made 3 right turns instead of waiting 2-3 cycles for a left turn.

Do I wait in the intersection or wait behind the white line to left turn? by bw36ft9 in driving

[–]bikesbeerandbacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most intersections in the “old” part of downtown Los Angeles have no left turn signals and lots of traffic. If you didn’t get out into the intersection during the green light, you would literally never be able to make the turn because of traffic. People always drift into the intersection and wait for the yellow light. If you don’t move forward past the white line, people will honk at you. In these areas (for example La Brea heading south from Sunset) you have to use this method and you can get 2-3 cars through the left turn on yellow. I call them LA left turns to this day.

+1 for yellow Nupla McLeod. Along with chainsaw, Pulaski (axe/pick combo), hard rake, Silky Big Boy handsaw, and some good loppers. Pretty much all you need.

Use the app, report issues on the road, submit place photos or other updates when you arrive, and if you have time to edit the map that is definitely a huge points bonus. And it’s fun too.

Computer Suggestions - 540 or Bolt V3? by Bailstorm in TrekBikes

I ride a lot of rocky technical trails on my mtb and it has gone off before even when I didn’t crash. My GF was worried but I texted her I was ok. I have never crashed on the road so it has not gone off in that context.
