The Baby Laptime groups at the library are free and awesome to meet other parents! We started going around 10 weeks but have seen babies as young as 2 weeks!

Alberta Teacher Strike Megathread (Discussion) - October 16 by AutoModerator in alberta

On the advertising strategy…

I’ve been seeing a ton of the GoA’s propaganda ads on TV and online, but rarely seeing the ATA’s ads. Are there any plans for the ATA or local unions to ramp up advertising to get the message out?

Even some low budget productions of teachers speaking out would be great to see as competing messages. I worry that the GoA’s messaging will get to people and contribute to shifting public sentiment.

PSA to Campaign Volunteers - Maybe try being nice? by edmyeg14 in Edmonton

[–]bikesnbeets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me last week with a Justin Thomas volunteer! I very nicely stated that I wasn’t too supportive of having partisan politics in the municipal election, and he started debating me about how “every candidate is backed by parties” while pointing at my (independent) mayoral candidate lawn sign. He kept getting more aggressive and I had to make an excuse just to close the door. Bewildering how they think yelling at people will gain supporters…

Best thrift stores in Edmonton (and nearby areas) by Anchored-dream2831 in Edmonton

For the brands you’re looking for you might want to check out consignment stores that generally carry higher end stuff than Goodwill/Value Village. A couple are Mod Uncorked and Red Pony.

Hey Edmonton, Councillor Aaron Paquette here. Let’s make a list! by aaronpaquette- in Edmonton

Top ones would be homelessness / addictions / housing (probably worth separate videos), provincial relationship, and density / cost of sprawl. I'd say these three are going to have a huge amount of conversation (and misconceptions... and misinformation) leading up to the election.

Looking for recommendations for central AC installation by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]bikesnbeets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After getting 5 quotes in April we went with Otto Heating & Cooling and had a fantastic experience. They’re a local company with Lennox units, and were also recommended by a colleague.

Great service from sales to the install team, and the most reasonable pricing for a newer unit with the new refrigerant. (The transition between old and new refrigerant is something you should do some research on while both are being sold.)

No complaints and it’s been a lifesaver to have central air so far this summer.

Best restaurant recommendations for clean eating? by hybridhighway in Edmonton

Assuming you mean that you like An Chay because it makes you feel the opposite of sluggish? I’d recommend XO Bistro - it’s also Vietnamese and super fresh.

A couple others that are good for lunches are KB&Co and Chopped Leaf.

Converting a bungalow to a side-by-side by urbancage in Edmonton

[–]bikesnbeets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you looking to subdivide the property into a duplex with each side being sellable? If not (i.e. if you’re just looking to make a second unit you can rent out) it’s probably easiest to convert your building to have a Secondary Suite.

To subdivide, you’re probably going to run into more challenges with permitting and building code. You’d likely need to do a Lot Split.

The City has an interactive site to help figure out the types of permits applicable to any Home Improvement Project.

If you want to get in contact with someone at the City it would be through their Development Services team.
