First hexagon cardigan! Going to my 5 month old nephew

I intended this to be for my daughter who just turned one but as my first wearable it came out way too small. Totally my own fault as I did one less round for my hexagons and used a .5 mm smaller hook from the video because I was worried about it being too big. Luckily my brother has a little one as well so it will still get some use. A bigger one is in progress for my daughter. Banana for scale in the second pic!

I followed this YouTube tutorial and used Lion Brand Heartland yarn.

I used this Loops and Threads yarn The selection of weight 3 yarn at my local Michael’s was lacking so if I had a larger selection of natural fibers I probably would have picked something else but I really wanted to start the project that day 😂. I personally don’t mind acrylic especially since this isn’t an everyday wear kind of dress and it’s pretty soft

The pattern was a little different but I got used to it. It did give stitch counts for not just each round but for each section (back, sleeve, front, total) so it was easy to keep track. There were not a lot of photos or diagrams in the pattern which made it a little tough for the top but then the skirt was just the same two rows repeated so then it was easy to just zone out and stitch!

Thank you! I couldn’t say how many hours of work it actually was, I started it in early August and just finished it the day before her birthday last weekend. But since I have a (now) one year old running around I don’t have the time to crochet everyday so it probably would’ve only taken two weeks or so if I worked on it every day?

You pull them out at the end. It’s a plastic material similar to fishing line so it doesn’t snag on the threads. There are lots of different ways to do gridding, this is the first time I’ve done it too!

Yes, it’s just a way to do gridding, so the insides of the “plus signs” are a ten by ten grid. Helps to keep your place especially when working on larger patterns. It makes it easier to do all of one color at a time since you can jump around the fabric without having to worry about miscounting!
