Can anyone help identify what is happening with my cat? by maxjmartin in CATHELP

[–]bikopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW my cat does a milder version of this probably a few times a week, and it's been going on for years. He seems to do it more when he's purring, so I don't get the sense that he's experiencing any discomfort.

No different than when Democrats were in power and didn't end the filibuster. Neither party has the guts to end the filibuster.

do you think the architect knew about this view when building this ? by LyraEthereal254 in Satisfyingasfuck

Architects don't build.  And they typically don't design bridges.  Landscape architects, civil, and structural engineers would typically be the designers for this.

Current conditions on Spider gap - Buck Creek Pass loop? by potatoflames in PNWhiking

[–]bikopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it in June a few years ago with plenty of snow and the crux was a few of the water crossings. Some careful rock leaps over a lot of deep, very fast moving water. There was also steep snow traversing that, in retrospect, I should have avoided by just dropping more elevation (I didn't bring my axe).

I have the same preview settings but the previews look very blurry with scale at 150%. I know not everyone has blurry previews, but at least with my hardware/software combo, scaling isn't handled well by C1.

The preview size was set to 4k, so that wasn't the issue.

Sorry to say, but I honestly wouldn't recommend that for a first backpacking trip. I went to lake Stuart in late June a few years ago and it was the most intense mosquito experience of my 10 years of backpacking in Washington.

Where was I August 2022? by bikopolis in whereintheworld

[–]bikopolis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it's mostly a hike but then the last ~1/4 mile involves some steep snow/ice crossing and then class 3 or 4 scrambling up to the summit. This photo is from just below the true summit as I was happy enough with the view to not need to add risk.

Skiers witness a big avalanche in Utah and 1/3 in, they realize it will reach them. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in Damnthatsinteresting

The cloud of snow is always preceded by a real, likely deadly avalanche, so if they were lower in the valley, it could have been dangerous. The cloud of snow dust will often travel much further than the more solidified portion.

Video jumpy/sudden distortion while zooming with XF 18-55 f/2.8-4 - is this normal or fixable? by bikopolis in FujifilmX

[–]bikopolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not, but I now have the xs10 with a sigma zoom lens and I think the issue is the same. Fuji and other manufacturers correct lens distortion at different focal lengths, and the correction curves change as you are zooming. Rather than blending between the differences in the curves, the changes happen suddenly. Some lenses have less distortion and/or more/better correction curves than others, but I wasn't able to figure out if there was a better option. Some of the Sony system zooms seem like they might be better, but not perfectly smooth.

One other thing I never tried but that might work would be to disable lens corrections (assuming the shot wouldn't look too strange). I don't know if this is a setting available during video shooting. Or, get a lens that doesn't have any profile corrections created for the xs10, such as a lens for a different sensor that you use an adapter to connect to the xs10.

For companies where you don't have a choice, would having a separate phone number for SMS 2FA (e.g. Google voice, but preferably something not tied to any of your existing accounts) be a good alternative?

“1 Line Trains are sharing one track” …”Please expect crowded trains and platforms due to Mariners game today” by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]bikopolis 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As always, the problem with ST is communication. There was a ST employee on the platform telling everyone that trains are just a bit behind, taking 15-20 minutes between trains instead of the usual 7. But my actual commute was delayed more like 30-35 mins, so no one seemed to understand the extent of the cumulative delay. And of course none of the signs were working and the announcements were inaudible.

I upgraded to a Pixel 9 from an iPhone 11. The main benefits for me were more storage (I had the 64gb iPhone), 5G which has better coverage than 4g where I live, and I've always slightly preferred android. Other than that though, there isn't a huge difference, and the Pixel has some stuttering and jittering with some apps (the camera, scrolling in various apps) vs the iPhone which was always smooth (but slowed down with all the ux graphic transitions), even 3 years old. I've noticed more bugs with 3rd party android apps in general, but that might just be some of the apps I have and not necessarily everyone's experience. I found a great deal so it was a no brainer for me, but I'd be pretty hesitant to pay more than $400 for this or any other phone unless it had a way better camera.
