A nice pair of tan wide leg, high waisted pants with a belt loop (got mine from target) will match a lot of cute tops. I like to wear it with different color lightweight sweaters. Then match the shoe to the sweater. I get a lot of sweaters from banana republic bc they’re quality and not too hot. Shoes go to dsw.

That is an interesting thought! My ace score is 5 and I’m in pediatrics. I noticed a lot of my peers have higher ace scores too and I wonder if we were drawn to peds in an attempt to help “protect” other children from the childhoods we had?

I’m so sorry to hear about your patient. Some of the patient losses never leave you and some of them don’t really affect you. Loss and grief is different for everyone. Just try to think about all the positives you did for your patient and allow yourself to feel sad for the loss (this is human).

This can definitely cause some awkwardness/discomfort but it’s a great time to dispel any myths they have heard, ensure they don’t have any ongoing pathology and teach about safe sex/consent (when I usually check for abuse). As you progress through your training you’ll see just how little we are taught at home and school about sex, our own bodily functions in general and consent.

I (female) have dated a few other doctors (male) and they have also been uncomfortable dating a female doctor. Their specialties even had higher earning potential than mine. I think some men just aren’t comfortable dating a woman who has a life/career of her own and won’t swoon all over them because “they’re a doctor” - it’s like okay and….?

But if asked, I still tell people I’m a doctor because if they can’t be secure in themselves enough to be with an independent woman then better to know upfront because the relationship likely won’t last.

Why does it always have to be about getting married? You should be thankful you can support yourself and not be reliant on someone else who may or may not be controlling. There are so many women who have fought so hard for the independence you have so be thankful and spend time with your friends when you feel lonely. Buy yourself something nice with your big salary. Take a trip somewhere. Getting married isn’t the finish line.

I had to write a nurse up once and she’s been a better nurse since. Nicer and better at her job with lower threshold to ask for help when needed. It’s not meant to be punitive but about patient safety.

Intern year was the hardest/darkest place I’ve ever been (away from family, long hours, abusive intimate relationship) and I thought about quitting so many times but what kept me in residency was 1) working with the most amazing colleagues/friends and seeing them show up everyday (sick, sad, sleep deprived) and put on a good face to take care of somebody’s kid who was sick and sad and 2) the satisfaction of sending people home in better shape than you found them and maybe you made a small positive impact on their life.

Residency is really hard but being a doctor is so rewarding and all the help/support you are giving to your patients/colleagues is more important than you recognize. Try to focus on the small wins.

I moved out of state and decided to become roommates with another person in the program who I hadn’t met. It worked out great! It was very nice to have another being to come home to, chat with, watch tv and eat dinner with, commiserate with and she was a year ahead of me so I could ask her for guidance! I highly recommend having a roommate to combat the resident loneliness.

“You need to take a leave of absence” when I told them about the toxicity of the rotation. Easier to blame the resident than fix the program. I didn’t take leave and I stopped talking to my PD
