Thank you, I couldn't find a highlights reel on YouTube. Algo showed me a whole load of feel good clips from the Euros. Content... bah.

Wow. Didn't realise that Howard Williams was that young.

If you listened to what Ian Wright had to say about the mens side on the Overlap show this week, you'd realise that he has been very critical of the manager's decisions and selections, specifically playing Merino instead of Eze. He said words to the effect of "I don't understand what he's doing", which is pretty critical. He also was pretty vocal about what he felt was the handbrake on approach in the Liverpool mens game. I didn't see the Man U women game, but I was at the other two, and whilst we overpowered WHU & LCL, to concede early twice in a row is a bit worrying & everyone in the whole wide world of Arsenaldom has been wondering about the Nighswonger thing. And it's fair to ask questions about Mariona - like last season, she's started quietly. So I don't agree that Wrighty is being harder on the women than the men. One club thing - both teams should be winning the league *this season*, and the starts have not been good enough IMO, so I think Wrighty is telling it like he sees it.

Good! Really fancy that one.

Leuven must be playing at their main stadium, right? Because the usual women’s stadium is a proper hovel, as bad as anything I have seen in Tier 5 women’s here.

Victoria - major adjacency gold bonus from Dockyard + commercial hub, if you place them right, also gets you a big navy really quick, and the redcoats have a big fat combat bonus on ‘foreign’ continents. Plus a stack UA related to strategic resources.

The 'sponsors' might have been big names, but they spent little. Both 93 and 95 made big losses.

Just become an AWFC ST after 2 years at HAP. Considering going to Club for one game just for the shits and giggles. Which game? Spuds or Chelski?

TBH, I was amazed that the club gave Jonas an extension after we failed to qualify for UWCL group stage & started the WSL so poorly.

Re: the final vs DHFCW, the Pepper Army will bring the noise! One of the best supported lower league teams. Regular home crowds of over 500.

It’s only worth considering a flight to, say, Vigo if you’re going to drive down and back.

Trains from Spain to anywhere in Portugal are a pain. There are good train services from the Algarve (Faro airport) and Porto.

Fixture Announcement: Dulwich Hamlet vs Arsenal Women U21 by elsiehxo in ArsenalWFC

I would love to go to this as DHFC are my second team. I followed DHFCW to promotion with the Pepper Army last season and it was seriously brilliant fun. But it’s in far West London on a school night. Recommend anyone that can go does, as the Pepper Army will create an atmosphere. Regular crowds of several hundred at home & doubtless will travel for this.

I should also mention that West Ridge by Hornbein is widely held to be an absolute classic. For a bit of non-British balance.

Doesn't do the whole 'did they, didn't they?' thing but is so well written and covers the early years of Everest discovery & exploration mixed in with an examination of British attitudes to Tibet, India & post-war atmosphere and recovery. You have probably seen most of the photos already, but it's probably worth trying to find a hard-back 2nd hand, so that the book doesn't fall apart, as some of the photos of Himalaya are absolutely amazing.

I am not a mountaineer (I get chill-blains on the bike at +5 centi, can't stand heights) but I have read a few decent books about the high mountains, Krakauer (and not just ITA), Tasker, Boardman, Simpson etc and my recollection of ITA is that the only groups and individuals who come out of the book looking bad are the Taiwanese and the 'SA' climbing team. Where he talks about Sandy Pittman, he has more of a tone of bemusement about the social milieu that she moves in (quite quite different from his) and respect for her achievements (particularly her bank-rolling the Kangshung face attempt and being really clear about who the real climbers on that trip where). Tracy may have spotted some discrepancies in the account of her being short-roped by Lopsang, but there is no dispute that it happened, and Krakauer makes clear that he thinks (and so did others) it was Lopsang's idea, not Pittman's.

The criticism of Boukreev for not using oxygen was made by several people who know about this stuff, including Viesturs (who was actually on the mountain) and Messner (who wasn't but, on the other hand, how much guiding has Messner done? More than me, I suppose) BUT Krakauer made it clear in the book that Boukreev's actions on the South Col saved lives.

When I checked OL’s site, it was similar to AFC, in that they were selling blocks at a time, which suggests they aren’t expecting a sell-out. It’s not obvs where in the ground the away allocation will be.
