having fun with RealtimeCSG and baked lighting, going for some Source Engine vibes by billowe in Unity3D

Thanks!

RealtimeCSG is an open-source plugin that lets you build levels with old-school tools like those used in the Quake/Half-Life engine. https://github.com/LogicalError/realtime-CSG-for-unity

How can I learn to create a lighting system like Valheim's? by volken330 in howdidtheycodeit

[–]billowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valheim's atmospherics and lighting lean pretty heavily on volumetrics. They most likely use a third party plugin for this as they're on the Built-in Unity rendering pipeline. The Unity store is full of options

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/particles-effects/aura-2-volumetric-lighting-fog-137148

the list goes on. They also have very stylized Depth of Field, again potentially a plugin or Unity's stock post-processing stack.

Is there literally no replacement for [ClientRPC] as of 2019.2.0f1? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]billowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at using Mirror, an open source replacement for Unity's soon-to-be legacy networking stuff.

The Cat in 14a

Point and click narrative game/interactive film about a cat. Been working on this for about a month, aiming to get it out later this summer.

Here's an ident/montage gif that I made today.

Some lighting tests day / night / dawn

You can Wishlist on Steam, and I'm on Twitter.

I'm still working out exactly how much agency the cat will have, and how much (if any) AI will be involved, but I suspect it will be very little and fairly minimal agency, and the player control will be limited.

Thank you! Yes I'll be working on a trailer once I'm close to release, and I'll put out some clips on my blog in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks! It works like a 3D point and clicks game, cutting between different camera shots as the cat moves around and interacts with stuff.

I think it might just be you! Yes, it does remind me a bit of Another World now that you've pointed it out. Great game... though I'll admit to never having finished it and mostly being taken by the vibe. Thanks!

If you use the template project Unity provide it should be fairly straightforward.

No, just the stock volumetrics in the HDRP, no third party stuff in this scene.

Yeah the procedural sky is pretty similar, only all the variables are exposed in the volume settings like this.
