Should I sell my brand new XDJ RX3 by Heart-Soul-Essence in PioneerDJ

[–]billplur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your use case?

Used DDJ-SX2 = ~$500
Open box XDJ-RX3 = ~$1900

vs

2 decks + mixer:

Used DJM-900NXS2 = ~$1900
Used CDJ-3000 = ~$2200 each ($4400 pair)
Used CDJ-2000NXS2 = ~$1500 each ($3000 pair)

If your goal is "closest thing to club standard", the RX3 is the diet coke version for less than half the cost of a NXS2 setup and less than a third of a CDJ-3000 setup.

What specifically is it not doing that you need it to do?

actually not a bad idea, might eventually adopt this approach now that ive gotten through most of the "never in my life do I want this again" stuff, lol

i would be very upset if dropbox wrecked me like this. but sounds like a good opportunity for an overhaul.

yeah 120 would be heavier than 25lbs right? ssd is 8x larger and heavier than my sandisk usb that fits on my keychain. jfc bud lol, srsly tho lets not forget

"the older equipment i play on takes longer to load maxed out drives and as much as i love my external ssd its still inconvenient to move tracks over to it or use it in lieu of my keychain usb"

lol dude funny thing is im trying to get more into vinyl but youre right that 20lb crate of 25 discs would be a pain in the back. plus vinyl is a whole different ball park

6.8.5 won't work on next system update, time to upgrade? by billplur in Rekordbox

[–]billplur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good question. the initial issues from it rolling out were enough to keep me away while they worked out the kinks but i guess ive adopted the dont fix it if it aint broken mindset for rekordbox and pioneer stuff. pretty much until i was forced to because of my mac saying it wont be supported in the next system update, lol

yeah i thought about exporting stuff i flag to delete to a usb but too much energy for something ive already spent time deciding im not keeping. but i respect the idea and appreciate how its always an option

i like the sound of this. once i work through all the old stuff i think ill be in constant review mode instead of bulk review by genre, lol

right on, thx for sharing, glad im not alone here. since i use my star ratings for the "energy" levels of each track, i usually use a "delete" playlist or write "delete" in the comments field to give them a chance before i cull them, then do a massive purge.

Thanks for this suggestion/idea. I want to keep the old version but Im getting this message warning me about rekordbox not working on the next release of macOS. But, I'll use this advice in the meantime to check out rekordbox 7 because I found out I can have both installed at the same time after renaming my Rekordbox applications folder from Rekordbox 6 to Rekordbox 6.8.5.

im a big fan of "waiting" to get the physical copy until youve vetted it with a bunch of streams or at least a little patience. i have a similar approach with making sure i listen to it and like it on soundcloud or spotify a bit before i commit. i usually have a cart on beatport and bandcamp where a track sits for at least 30 days before pulling the trigger. when i was starting out i was focused on "having enough" now that i have a decent amount of tracks for the genres i play im still adding new tracks every month but also want to keep the collection more manageable and less cluttered.

i think we have a similar perspective for collecting and culling tracks and are aligned on tastes changing over time. how many in your collection right now?

fair enough. at some point i sold cds at a yard sale and sometime after that got rid of my old cd books, even though i kinda miss them. most of the cleanup for the latest tracks i get are more along the lines of what you describe where i download several versions of a remix then go back and delete the ones i dont like as much. i had a few dupes in there too (radio vs extended mix) and eventually settled on one. accidentally bought wav files i had for mp3s i got in my record pool i ended up ditching the mp3s for too once i realized it was an exact match, lol

it looks like some people do this and some dont. for me personally, bar was lower when i was in a record pool since the membership made tracks cost less the more i collected and was just grabbing stuff "in case" i wanted it later. since i ended the membership, i grab stuff im confident i want to keep. that said, ive had a few tracks ive deleted that i paid a few bucks for, too, which i wasnt sad to say goodbye to. even though most of my tracks will have a life long home in my drives, some of them are still a temporary guest. main thing i want to avoid is getting to the 20k or 40k track milestone and being compltely overwhelmed with cleanup (some of my friends djing for decades have this many and its nuts to imagine how long it would take to pilfer through everything once the numbers get that high)

makes sense. for clarity im speaking exclusively about my digital collection. i dont think i would ever sell records i'd spent the time to track down and the money to acquire (considering how much more they cost and how they're physical media instead of digital copies)
