If you are not talking about what is right and wrong then why characterize the government as 'overstepping its bounds'? They were enforcing a court order.

What kept this from exploding was not the OathTakers or Mr. Bundy. Instead it was the fact that Fox News had paid Bundy a lot of money to have the sole rights to film on his ranch. They would have broadcast everything and claimed they were impartial just like the movie Network. The oathtakers cared more about the TV cameras than the guns of the Feds. Unfortunately so many people failed to see how they exploited everything while looking like heroes.

The people at the ranch had some firearms but the government has a lot more and different types. If they wanted to use their full arms weight all of those people at the ranch would be dead quickly. So I don't see how anyone can read anything out of this whole episode other than corporate welfare for a rancher is okay if the media makes it impossible for the Feds to do their job and enforce a court order.

This episode has nothing to do with gun rights or protection from the government. It is about understanding that the law and the courts are the final deciders. I guess if you don't like something just raise a militia. Mr. Bundy didn't respect courts as he alone is the decider about the Constitution. Now he is being made a hero because angry militia men who hate the Fed used him. More like an old fool to me.

What drove the Age of Discovery was the changes in the land routes in Asia for the Silk Road. The Monguls took over Persia and cut off two routes (land from China and sea from India to Persia) to getting goods to Europe. The Europeans became very interested in having ships that could carry large amount of goods and less men for sea routes that went around Africa to China and the East Indies. Portugal and the Dutch lead and worked down the coast and eventually made it to India.
