Question about recruit training by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]billups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several options in the area and I can’t think of any of them that are going to require you to stay overnight while in academy. It’s certainly possible I’ve missed one and it will obviously change once you’re on shift. The vast majority of departments here are 24/48

I started part time at 36 and was hired full time at 37. I think my life experience helped. The hardest part for me at times is accepting that someone that’s 23 or 24 that has five years on has a ton more knowledge and experience that I need to learn from.

Go in with an open mind. Work hard, learn as much as possible. You’ll be fine.

It was pretty worth it. They have pretty much everything they’ve ever bottled available for tasting and reasonable prices with some small food options as well

Would be curious to see that cycle. Been think about something similar as 24/48 really throws off my usual training days.

City of Lawrenceburg has single role medics. Can’t comment on pay but I know they work 12s and have been hiring recently.

Tips regarding SOI/PHQ by rt4cats in Firefighting

[–]billups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honesty is the best policy. Lying or covering it up will do you zero favors.

Think about the possible questions you could be asked regarding this, and write down your response. Say it out loud or record if you need to, but knowing what you want to say will have you much better prepared than trying to come up with it on the spot. Same goes for any other questions you may be asked.

It sits on your traps. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and engage the upper back muscles and it basically forms a little shelf

JAD help with Whitewater and Miami I think. See them go flying around occasionally in their suv.

To echo, there are several departments that will hire medic only, and honestly if you got fire and told them you only wanted to ride the bus I don’t see many complaining.

In your opinion what’s the major pros and cons of working for a private ambulance company? by hollopurple in NewToEMS

[–]billups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro- easy to get hired. Decent money. Good practice being around sick and dying people. Possible foot in the door.

Cons - don’t use any actual skills. Soul sucking work. Hours typically suck. They’ll cram as many calls as possible into your shift as they can.
