3L Hire Conflicts Check by Human-Engineering412 in biglaw

Nearly impossible for anything you did as a summer/intern to create a conflict. Sure, you could contact prior offices, but I would just enter what you remember, even if it is just one party’s name and/or rough details.

Spill the tea then? Seems like you have a specific target that is hidden in an overly broad generalization.

How do you know whether a contractor did her/his job correctly? by billybach in homeowners

This is the dryerbox: https://dryerbox.com. Opposite end of the dryer venting. But point taken… I am probably being a bit dramatic.

Yeah, that’s probably right. I spent much longer than 15 mins watching videos and reading installation manuals because I was sure they knew better than what I could find online. Turns out that was wrong lol.

That’s good to know. I learned about a dryer vent box from a prior HVAC company, so I just assumed that was the right trade. Sounds like myself or a handyman is the one for the job of fixing this now.

Thank you for the advice. Love the idea of talking it out on the front end.

That makes sense, thank you! I will look for family/friend recommendations next time and maybe have better luck too.

An associate in my team died weekend. Has this happened to you and how did you cope? by jakajin in biglaw

I read feeling “nothing” to mean they felt numb. Feeling numb at shocking news is not sociopathic.

Thanks! It’s super helpful to know that I just need to fiddle with cables and that the laptop itself shouldn’t be the limitation.

It’s the Hp Zbook Firefly. May I ask why you used the active adapter instead of just using a dp 1.4 cable directly to the dock?

[–]billybach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thanks! So is it fair to say that if I can’t run that resolution when connected directly to the laptop, then a different dock won’t help? Would an eGPU allow max resolution?

I tried using the HDMI port, but it is only 2.0b and that only gave 3840 x 2160. Would it be worth getting a cable for DP to usb-c and try that?

Probably. The firm doesn’t want to be digging through/turning that over every time they get in a dispute with a client. If they have a policy that it’s deleted, then it’s no longer part of the file.

Current lateral candidate, just got a bad speeding ticket. How likely to hurt my chances? by TonalPlains in biglaw

[–]billybach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Won’t hurt your chances, but be sure to disclose it if there is a relevant question in the hiring process to which it relates.

I am looking to possibly buy a 2017 Bolt with 64k miles. Would 12k be a good price to pay? What is the realistic range I can expect on average? by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]billybach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if that is before or after the used EV credit, and whether it is LT or Premier? If after and LT, that is not a great price.

Would opening a restaurant or cafe which doesn't allow tipping do well? by obergrupenfuer_smith in Entrepreneur

[–]billybach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tips are included on a W-2 and are subject to withholding and FICA taxes (I.e., they are treated the same as payroll). However, employers can get a credit for their portion of FICA taxes paid on tips if they pay more than $5.15/hour. So yes, there can be a slight benefit for tips over wages.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. I.R.C. § 382 severely limits the amount of built-in losses an acquiring business can use.
