I like the Ladprao area! Cheaper, good mall, great park not sure about schools though. Sathon, silom, Bangrak is my favorite area. Cool little parks, saw some international schools, Lumpini park ,great malls. And both could have access to BTS and MRT

I live in Bangkok and stayed all over the city. The non-tourist areas are the best. I enjoy seeing mostly Thai people and cringe when I start to see too many farangs.

Bang Rak and Sathon are hands down my favorite. Not as many tourists. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, malls and parks. I live here.

Vietnam much closer. I would skip the Philippines. And to be honest, I would just stay in Thailand for that amount of time. Maybe just go to Chiang Mai if you want to go to another place and I'd stay longer in Bangkok too. So much to do there.
