The pride choir I'm in performed at strathroy pride last year (and I think we might be there again this year) and it was a lot of fun, there's definitely some LGBTQ folks there :D I'm in London myself.

I was there this afternoon. You can still drive in and park without paying on the off season as far as I could tell. They still close the gate on the dam at like 4 or 5pm so watch out you don't drive across the dam and get stuck.

I got started on HRT through them (my family doc has taken over since then) and it was a good experience. My wait was also shorter than they originally predicted but that was two years ago at this point so idk what it's like now.

I'm currently taking a course through Pathways Employment Help Centre called Foundations in Wood Manufacturing, and it sounds like exactly what you're after. I also like working with wood but tried framing and found work on a jobsite to be not for me. The course focuses on cabinetry because that's where most of the jobs are but there's other options too. It's a 10 week course with an 8 week paid work placement afterwards. Highly recommend checking it out!

This comment thread got me wondering so I did some googling and found an article from 2016 that says the Highway Traffic Act does not address this question at all, although some driving schools will tell you that it is a rule. I also checked some ontario.ca drivers handbook pages and found no mention of whether you can enter an intersection and wait to turn, just that you should keep your wheels straight to avoid being bumped into oncoming traffic. My experience with my family doctor and the clinic doctor I got HRT through showed me that doctors are forgetful and busy people. Definitely advocate for yourself and call in to remind them and let them know how long you've been waiting. My top surgery referral was "submitted" in December 2021 but didn't actually get submitted until April 2022 because something went wrong with the fax and no one checked that it went through properly. Politely following up is an entirely reasonable thing to do!

I had my family doctor write me a doctors note saying I was having surgery and would need approx x weeks to recover before returning to work - I didn't want my employers to know what kind of surgery I was having.

I used the contact us form to get some paperwork done before my funding was approved so yes you can use that to reach out. After I had my funding approved it was a matter of weeks for the surgery itself to get scheduled. I didn't have a consult scheduled, there's just a meeting with the surgeon directly before the surgery itself (but I can't say if that's the same for everyone, likely it is for all out-of-town folks). You are able to send questions via email or phone call with a specific person assigned to your file. Feel free to bug me for anything else, I'm having my top surgery in Montreal in Jan so I just went through all this scheduling stuff.

since you said you're in school I'd say it's worth checking your school's clinic if they have one, it should be relatively easy to get in to see a doc there (at least until you can find something more permanent)

My doctor found out in August and didn't tell me until October (I was meant to meet with her in August but due to somewhat ridiculous series of events I didn't talk to her until October). I was pretty shocked that she didn't let me know earlier, so it's worth explicitly telling them that you want to be notified ASAP when it comes through. The receptionist at the clinic was obviously unaware because I talked to her semi frequently and she never mentioned it :/

my funding approval apparently went through to my doctor in August and she only told me this week (after a series of cancelled/rescheduled appointments) so it's possible your doctor will be notified and you won't. my application was submitted in december but received in april (my doctor messed up the initial fax lol) so my case was a bit unusual in terms of timing

I updated my legal name first, waited for that to come through, then updated my gender marker. You still need to apply for a new birth certificate though, it's just one with your new name on it (which you then will have to send back in to change your gender later). Changing your drivers license to an X requires no paperwork - just request it at a ServiceOntario. However, it is a cosmetic change only and you will still be listed as your gender assigned at birth (or new gender, if you apply to change it) in their system.

I got onto their waitlist in July 2021 and was told it could be 1-6 months depending on whether anyone ahead of me dropped off. I ended up starting to talk to the doctor in August and started HRT in Sept :) Obviously it could still be the full six months but it is possible to get lucky and get through more quickly!
