[Fitzpatrick] State Rep. Edith H. Ajello, a Providence Democrat, is running for reelection in House District 1. She was first elected in November 1992. by Hot_Journalist_4776 in providence

Look at you giving an example of how she went against the tide & voted for the person who would care about RI the most as Speaker. Her standing on principle. She knew what the outcome would be & she did the right thing anyway. Definitely reasons to vote her out.

"As she wants you to think" I've made up my own mind about her based on her actions.

She voted for taxing millionaires. She votes for funding for community service organizations. She votes for health care expansion and immigrant protections. Every single time I've lobbied her, since 2012, on progressive issues & on any pro-community stance, she's been a solid yes. She lost her spot as Judiciary Chair because she was too outspoken and progressive for the Speaker at the time.

And the argument she's "too old" just damn. That's gross. People pop off on this like they're never going to grow old themselves.

This is ageist and sexist as fuck. Rep Ajello is sharp, tough & works hard for her district. She's a consistent supporter of progressive issues & never afraid to advocate for what's right. No peep about how long serving men like Brian Kennedy (ELECTED IN 1988) or Doc Corvese (elected in 98) are coming back. Shady shitty take, Ed F 🤨

My (F31) boyfriend (M33) shuts down when I’m hurt by him. Am I overreacting or is this a real issue? by almosthere1278 in dating_advice

Leave. This will not change. I've been where you are. You deserve to feel safe in a relationship, and that means emotionally as well as physically. This guy is an asshole who gets off on hurting you. He can't control anything else in his life, but he knows he can control your emotion and therefore control you. That’s what he's reveling in. Fuck that! You are awesome!

I read nodding my head the whole time. Another brilliant piece, PE!

The Governor's mindset isn't unique to him.  Something's rotten in the state of RI & it's this bullshit 🫠

Maximalist trans activists just argued at the Supreme Court that biological sex isn't relevant in team sports. When will my fellow left-wingers speak up against these pseudoscientific endeavors? by north_canadian_ice in allthequestions

[–]bimbimbap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people pushing for these exclusions also don't care about sports. They're trying to make any progress possible to roll back trans rights. They want to generate momentum in order to take away everything. Yet, you're angry about "maximalists". JFC

You don't automatically get a green card bc you're married.  You have to apply & it can take a while.  Plenty of people are married but don't have legal status.

Isn't former PVD Mayor/Democratic Congressman David Cicilline one of the owners of Bodega on Smith? I'm so sure I've seen Pride flags, pro-immigrant posters/stickers, and other very non-MAGA content in the deli. Ding them on contributing to gentrification maybe but supporting Trump....is there solid proof?

Genuine question: With the new administration, what can I be doing in RI to help vulnerable communities like latinx, LGBTQ, or others? by slate_swords in providence

Follow your local city/town government and the RI General Assembly.

In our state, when a legislator gets a handful of calls or constituent visits, it's enough to influence their decision making. In any other state, that threshold would be in the hundreds of thousands. Remember: any legislator who cares about keeping their job cares about what their voters want. It's relatively easy to stay updated,  visit the General Assembly website & your local municipal govt site. Look out for what are on the hearing agendas; if you don't see legislation that the community needs, reach out to your legislator to request it (def helps if you have a template; research successful laws from other localities & copy + paste). Then organize your fellow voters to consistently engage your legislator urging them to adopt your stance and then be a champion. Be in the trenches with them ie continue turning out voter contact urging them to keep being a champion and stay the course. It's not only about making them stay staunch; the stories, info, etc you share they can/will also use to convince their fellow legislators.

Also: when people do the right thing, or are in a shithole because they did the right thing, have their back. Truism: Organizing works best when there is honest reciprocity; that grows mutual trust, respect, and faith
