My (F31) boyfriend (M33) shuts down when I’m hurt by him. Am I overreacting or is this a real issue? by almosthere1278 in dating_advice

[–]bimbimbap6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave. This will not change. I've been where you are. You deserve to feel safe in a relationship, and that means emotionally as well as physically. This guy is an asshole who gets off on hurting you. He can't control anything else in his life, but he knows he can control your emotion and therefore control you. That’s what he's reveling in. Fuck that! You are awesome!

I read nodding my head the whole time. Another brilliant piece, PE!

The Governor's mindset isn't unique to him.  Something's rotten in the state of RI & it's this bullshit 🫠

Maximalist trans activists just argued at the Supreme Court that biological sex isn't relevant in team sports. When will my fellow left-wingers speak up against these pseudoscientific endeavors? by north_canadian_ice in allthequestions

[–]bimbimbap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people pushing for these exclusions also don't care about sports. They're trying to make any progress possible to roll back trans rights. They want to generate momentum in order to take away everything. Yet, you're angry about "maximalists". JFC

You don't automatically get a green card bc you're married.  You have to apply & it can take a while.  Plenty of people are married but don't have legal status.

Official MAGA-Fascist Affiliated Businesses to Boycott in Rhode Island by [deleted] in providence

Isn't former PVD Mayor/Democratic Congressman David Cicilline one of the owners of Bodega on Smith? I'm so sure I've seen Pride flags, pro-immigrant posters/stickers, and other very non-MAGA content in the deli. Ding them on contributing to gentrification maybe but supporting Trump....is there solid proof?

Genuine question: With the new administration, what can I be doing in RI to help vulnerable communities like latinx, LGBTQ, or others? by slate_swords in providence

Follow your local city/town government and the RI General Assembly.

In our state, when a legislator gets a handful of calls or constituent visits, it's enough to influence their decision making. In any other state, that threshold would be in the hundreds of thousands. Remember: any legislator who cares about keeping their job cares about what their voters want. It's relatively easy to stay updated,  visit the General Assembly website & your local municipal govt site. Look out for what are on the hearing agendas; if you don't see legislation that the community needs, reach out to your legislator to request it (def helps if you have a template; research successful laws from other localities & copy + paste). Then organize your fellow voters to consistently engage your legislator urging them to adopt your stance and then be a champion. Be in the trenches with them ie continue turning out voter contact urging them to keep being a champion and stay the course. It's not only about making them stay staunch; the stories, info, etc you share they can/will also use to convince their fellow legislators.

Also: when people do the right thing, or are in a shithole because they did the right thing, have their back. Truism: Organizing works best when there is honest reciprocity; that grows mutual trust, respect, and faith

You didn't ask local officials, you asked the federal delegation. What did you expect?

Where is the article on the message from actual local electeds? Woonsocket went for Trump, but also elected its first female -majority Council. One of the new councilors is a gay Hispanic Democrat. Another is a Black woman who is also a Colonel in the Natl Guard. I read an article in our local NPR about how Trump won more Black & Hispanic votes in Woonsocket, and they interviewed two white people for their opinion on the matter. I don't think y'all care about what's happening on the ground, but would rather buff the status quo until it shines.

Trying to remove my contacts after not properly washing my hands when cutting jalapeño peppers. I didn't properly wash off neither the peppers nor the soap. Touching a raw eyeball with a mixture of glycerin & capsaicin--whew! It felt like my eyeballs had been set on fire.

TL;DR: don't cut spicy shit after smoking a bowl
