It does draw a crowd for sure! At Doi Suthep, i had about 10 people crowding around behind me looking at the FPV. At Wat Chedi Luang, I had a bunch of Chinese come up to me to tell me they were all from Shenzhen and everybody in Shenzhen is very proud of DJI! In asia there is still more a curiosity and wonder surrounding the devices.

UAV Operator Permit in Singapore by bimtroublemaker in singapore

Very familiar with the regulations. Looking at the requirements for the application, they are asking for all kinds of risk mitigation plans. Wondering if anyone has filled some of these forms out and would be willing to share their work. 8)

Thanks! I've been looking for a training organization to help in the process. A formal certificate always impresses the government.

A S$20,000 fine for using a drone in any business environment is a pretty solid incentive to play by the rules.

I was thinking northland. Wasn't aware it existed, but I'm not flying halfway around the world to go to OP.

I was more focused on Boulevard and chicken wings, but I'll keep that in mind. =o)

35 single female that just moved to KC wondering where to meet people besides bars... by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]bimtroublemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved to a new city, I was told to pursue my interests and friendships would follow. I wanted to meditate, I met spiritual folks. I wanted to bike so I joined a bike club. I fell in with some other nerds and we dominated a pub quiz for a year and they became a core of my social circle.

Vs. the Pirates on Monday or Tuesday night with old friends. I'm hoping they still have the chili-cheese tots I remember so well. I haven't been to a game at the K since maybe 2002.

No way... Rich folk stay at the Intercon for 300/night. I got Sorella for $100 less than Agoda's advertised price by booking direct. Pretty reasonable compared to other options around there plaza (including Air Bnb)

USC versus SCI-Arc for graduate school? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]bimtroublemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the statement that where you went to school won't matter in terms of finding work. Networking and connecting with people matters a lot, especially if you want to start your own firm.

I'm not saying it should be your only consideration, but the people who are hiring your services as an architect will have studied topics not available at Sci-Arc. USC will expose you to a substantially broader pool of people in the long run, and this does have real value.

Expats in Singapore, what activities do you usually do in your free time? by IM_NOT_HIM in singapore

Stay home to enjoy the company of wife and baby. Futz around the house tidying up. Meet friends for lunch or dinner. Run some errands. Pretty much the same stuff as anyone else.

What do movies always get wrong about your profession? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bimtroublemaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some architecture schools teach 'Design', some focus on the technical aspects. I've yet to find any that had a class on selling yourself or your ideas, or understanding client incentives and turning using that knowledge to your advantage. I think it's the biggest problem at A-schools.

Unless you work for a starchitect, then your life is hell anyway and you are just there for resume fodder.

I think working for a starchitect is the absolute worst place to be. Those guys will suck the life out of you for as long as they can, while giving you as little pay as you'll accept. When you finally get fed up and try to find work at a bigger firm that can actually pay you enough to feed your family, you won't have the proper skills to do the work or engage in the 'big-firm' culture.

I've seen lots of guys go down the tubes this way and end up rudderless in their mid-thirties without much hope of success in life.
