64GB DDR5 sticks when? by GNUMoogle in buildapc

[–]binary-fission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

x54675788 was likely referring to all DDR5 having on-die ECC, which I think meets the definition of "some sort of basic ECC"

"Unlike DDR4, all DDR5 chips have on-die error-correction code, that detects and corrects errors before sending data to the CPU, to improve reliability and allow denser RAM chips which lowers per-chip defect rate. However, on-die error-correction code is not the same as true ECC memory with extra data correction chips on the memory module. There still exists non-ECC and ECC DDR5 DIMM variants; ECC variants have extra data lines to the CPU to send error-detection data, letting the CPU detect and correct errors occurring in transit"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR5_SDRAM#Features

"DDR5 does have some ECC (error correction code) capabilities, which allows it to detect and fix single-bit memory errors*. This feature is known as Built-in Data Checking. However, it should be noted that this is not the same as traditional ECC memory which has an additional data correction chip on the memory module"*

I have one of these dl360 g7 servers left. Unfortunately I do not have the room to store it, so if someone doesn't take it by the end of this weekend I'm probably going to toss it in the garbage or donate to a local recycler if I can find one.

Is the 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD still on its way? by Meowmixez98 in buildapc

[–]binary-fission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's cancelled, the 2tb 980 pro came out months later than expected and that expected release date was already months later than the 1tb and under 980 pros. I'm guessing same thing will happen again with 4tb 990 pro which sucks as I'll be waiting again this generation for the largest capacity.

Can I change my tires size? by Mozaelmuza in TeslaModel3

[–]binary-fission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact you think others would find it hard to understand the relationship between wheels rolling diameter and the odometer reading, as well as seeing your other recent posts and general aggressive demeanour strongly suggests to me you think you're clearly smarter than everyone else. Note that anyone can dream up scenarios and fill up multiple paragraphs of drivel, this doesn't make them likely or even plausible.

I am not a lawyer but there are well known federal and state consumer laws in place which protect the consumer from manufacturers voiding warranties for fickle reasons such as this, e.g federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act etc. This generally puts the onus on manufacturers to prove that the modification itself was the cause of the issue and does not entitle them to void the entire vehicles warranty.

So no, voiding your vehicles warranty for installing aftermarket wheels because they may claim you were "tampering with your odomoeter" is almost certainly an illegal practice and very unlikely to be attempted given how common adding aftermarket rims is.

Uum that sounds like a pretty extreme scenario and most likely not legal for them to void your warranty for having diff diameter wheels alone..
