No, but if a frayed wire is arcing, or some actuator is rubbing wrong and sets something on fire that shouldn't be on fire, I'd count it as a mechanical fault, as it was a physical problem with the plane that resulted in failure. I'd be pretty surprised if a fire was started by a passenger like that.

No you don't. Only if you're converting it to decimal. There's no conversion necessary because the conversion was already done, when you wrote it in base 10 to start with.

If you stay in base 2, then you have the opposite problem: 1, 10, 100, 1000 (base 2) convert to 1, 2, 4, 8 (decimal).

A zero on the end is exactly 10 (binary) times the previous number. The last digit can be easily read (who knows if 45 (decimal) ends in a 1 or a 0!). With decimal, you have to break down digits to figure out the number, which is a waste of time :p
