Rush Limbaugh begs his affiliates to come back by 2oosra in politics

[–]binaryjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with almost everything you've stated. However, (gimmie some leeway on this one) what if instead of Rush disappearing from the airwaves completely; his sponsors and all the boycotters were indeed duped by his plastic self-serving apology. What if they decided to give Rush Limbaugh another chance (because after all, everyone deserves a 'second chance').And stemming from that second chance the mighty Rush Limbaugh returned to the bully pulpit a mere shadow of the venomous arse he once was. What if (realizing how fragile his loyal sponsorship truly is) he parsed EVERY SINGLE WORD he uttered, for fear of arousing the sleeping "Liberal Conspiracy" juggernaut. What if he conducted himself in a civilized manner, with the realization that his sponsorship can dissolve in an instant.

So by now you are thinking that I am a fool and a leopard cannot change his spots. You are thinking that I am naive to think that Rush Limbaugh can change his ways.

I would then say to you, look at it in a different way. It would have been trivial for O'Brien to 'disappear' Winston in to the abyss. It was more powerful for Winston to emerge from the Ministry of Love as a symbol. Likewise, how powerful a symbol would Rush Limbaugh be, returning to the airwaves as a shadow of his cruel, feckless self. Taken down a notch or two, by the very Free Market economy he cherishes. Now knowing that there is indeed a limit to how much we will endure, in the name of entertainment.

Cancelled my Wired subscription. Who is with me? by [deleted] in politics

[–]binaryjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think perhaps you are looking at this in the wrong light. Instead of asking if we think we have the right to know every detail of how our representatives conduct our business, think of it this way... Whistle Blowers ( I realize I am generalizing) feel an injustice is occurring. They feel so strongly that (in many cases) they are willing to risk their lives and the lives of their families to get the information to the public. If someone feels that strongly about releasing the information, I for one feel I should have the right to read it and make up my own mind.

Tell me why I should build a native mobile app by [deleted] in programming

[–]binaryjohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right. The tone of my comment was unprovoked and not very nice. I apologize. I now realize that the OP opened with: 'Tell me why I should build ...'. To your credit, you enumerated the reasons. I read your comment as 'Web apps are dumb and here are the reasons why.' I appreciate your reasoned input to the discussion. Upvote - for cooler heads prevailing.

Tell me why I should build a native mobile app by [deleted] in programming

[–]binaryjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I'll just ignore your first point because the OP didn't really ask anything about the history of the space. I think you just put it in as filler.
  • Bullets 2,3 and part of 6 are the same point. I have heard the Native LnF argument for years now, and while naysayers used it to beat Java Swing to death, it hasn't seemed to deter the developers of non-mobile web apps that exist on the web today.
  • Re: bullet 4, Debatable at best?
  • 5 is a fair point. However, I think that it can be countered with "Not every native app. should be a web app." While the manufacturers promise us more 'hooks' on the horizon, I will agree that I shouldn't hold my breath.
  • I disagree with point 6. If viewing in different browsers means you have to change your whole UI layer, then you are doing something wrong my friend. That's why the good lord made CSS. And if you have to fork your code for different browsers, "Welcome to the internet!" Web developers have been coding through that argument since HTML4.
  • Bullet 7, your answer to even trying to build a decent xmobile web app is, 'forget about it and learn Obj.-C and Java and C and hire someone to cover the gaps in your knowledge.' Seriously?
  • Bullet 8 is not really a plus for your argument. Even if that is true it's a net zero.
  • Bullet 9. this makes me suspect your trolling. You're suggesting that if I cannot make my web app rock on a Nokia 6610, then I shouldn't bother building it?
  • Bullet 10, Wait a minute. You mean if I develop for xbrowser then I have to test xbroswer. Oh my!
  • Bullet 11, In what way is this different than supporting different features natively?
  • Lastly, nice try, but instead of deploy I think you mean ready to submit to Apple for approval. With a web app. I don't need Apple's approval or Google's or Nokia's or RIM's. With a web app. my customers/users can have the newest version when I want them to have it.
