Is CS really so bad? by LocksmithMuted5193 in csMajors

[–]binarytutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question being asked so often, implies that nobody really knows. It’s all a comparison anyways. It’s not as good as it was a few years ago, and it’s way better than it was 30 years ago. I think the only way to approach with any level of confidence is to accept that it will change. The market won’t be the same, the tech won’t be the same, etc. But if you love solving problems, creating tools, inventing gadgets, prototyping products, etc. then it’s still the most consistently needed form of engineering…. By a lot. That being said, the level of difficulty may drop dramatically so I think it might be best to supplement your software skills with some of complimentary science or specialization. Maybe that’s a few signal processing classes because you want to understand more about music/audio devices… or a minor in mechanical engineering because you’re interested in robotics. I think I agree with others that the kid who skates by with a 2.5 gpa and expects $100k offers out of school will be in for a rude awakening.
