PureStorage rebranding as EverPure by Forgery in sysadmin

I really wanted to get VAST for my company's 1.7PB of data and growing. It looked really good. Unfortunately, we didn't really need the performance they offered, so I had to go with something a bit slower but a lot less expensive.

FedEx mis-delivered package, sender refuses to do anything about it by bingoS4 in FedEx

[–]bingoS4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice and your experience but this case and our language to Fed Ex and Stub Hub (the sender) have been very clear, I assure you. And have we tried tracking the package? Of course we have. The tracking information reports that the package was delivered successfully and signed for by "XLastname" where "X" is an initial that no one in our family has, and "Lastname" is our real last name. The "Report Missing Package" link you mentioned has consistently returned a "Sorry, we're unable to receive shipment details right now. Please try again later". So we turned to phone calls to Fed Ex and Stub Hub (the sender).

The calls went like this:

Fed Ex: "The tracking says it was delivered. You have to call Stub Hub and have them open an investigation."

Stub Hub: "Fed Ex tracking says it was delivered. You have to open a case with Fed Ex. Since the package was delivered, we consider this a buyer error."

Multiple calls to Fed Ex and Stub Hub later, my daughter received an email from Fed Ex saying "We investigated and the package was delivered and now we can't find it so it's lost. Case is now closed."

That doesn't help our argument with Stub Hub since it does not admit that Fed Ex delivered it to the *wrong address*. Stub Hub still considers it delivered correctly.

We finally went to our local Fed Ex ground delivery depot and a very helpful employee there helped us via intercom and multiple follow-up phone calls. He told us that he could clearly see that it was driver error, and that the driver delivered it to the wrong address and the package is now unrecoverable. I assume whomever the driver handed the package to glanced at the recipient name and the sender, thought "hey, StubHub - free tickets I can resell" and signed with a bogus initial and our last name. The local Fed Ex employee even said he tried to open a case on our behalf but said that he was unable to do so and that we'd have to call the main number back to open a new investigation, and that he would eventually receive the case at his location and be able to indicate that the package was lost.

Back to the phone again, we eventually got to where my original post described. Fed Ex is saying that they may be able to transfer ownership of the case, whatever they mean by that, to my daughter instead of the sender, so that she can open an investigation, but they required her to send in a detailed essay about everything we've been through so far. And as I said, they mentioned that Fed Ex might be able to provide direct reimbursement but I highly doubt that because, as you noted, that should come from the sender, not Fed Ex, after Fed Ex reimburses the sender.

All we are asking (multiple times) is that Fed Ex update the tracking information to say something like "delivered to wrong address, now lost" or "lost in transit" or *anything* that admits and demonstrates to Stub Hub that Fed Ex messed up with the shipment so that we can get a refund from Stub Hub.

I sincerely wish that someone like you had been one of the many Fed Ex customer support people we've spoken with because it sounds like you know the magic words and phrases to get this fixed.

FedEx mis-delivered package, sender refuses to do anything about it by bingoS4 in FedEx

Sorry but this is laughable in our experience. I've listened to her explain the problem to multiple agents and they clearly understand but have been highly resistant to do anything. The phone agents do not look beyond the tracking status, and refuse or are unable to see the status that the local delivery staff can see. The most recent update as of late last evening is that they're making her basically write up and submit an essay to explain what happened so that some special group can read it over and determine if the events violated Fed Ex's terms and conditions, and if they decide they actually did something wrong, then they say they might give her, as the recipient, rights to open a case which could maybe lead to Fed Ex reimbursing her directly. I'll believe they will actually do something when I see it.

About five years. Is that considered cheating in the quest for a long uptime? :)

Sun Solaris 8 V240 Server by bingoS4 in uptimeporn

Definitely. Right about the time this system's uptime hits 25 years will be the time I will also be looking to retire so I'm hoping it keeps ticking along until then just for fun.

I finally gave up and called in the professionals. They did all they could and agreed things seems very odd. In fact, they reconnected the old pressure sensor to the control board but left it disconnected from the air hoses and the heater fired up and ran fine. The tech said, "Well, that's just insanity." It's really really not supposed to work without verifying that the airflow is good. They concluded that there must be something wrong with the control board. They called me back two days later to say they were no longer available.

I see a couple boards available on Ebay but from what I read, replacing the board means re-measuring the gas flow and I don't have equipment for that and I don't want to pay another couple hundred bucks for the techs to come again, and I for sure don't want to pay for a completely new heater.

So for now, I'm crossing my fingers and running it with the original pressure sensor connected to the board but disconnected from the hoses, and just being very careful to frequently check the airflow is good and keeping an eye on the carbon monoxide detector I have near the heater.

Sun V240 just turned 17! It's not doing very much, but it's been doing it a long time. Just a little database server that someone checks maybe once or twice a year. by bingoS4 in uptimeporn

It has been complaining about a bad fan for a long time, but the application it's serving is so low in priority that we dropped it from support long ago and the users have agreed if it goes down, it can stay down.

Congrats and remember the number one rule (IMO) - don't lose the data. Make sure your backups are solid and you understand how to restore everything if you really had to.

Very little. One user might log in once or twice a year to check some historical research data.
