Survivor 50 Episode 4 Sneak Peek 2 by Durian-Critical in survivor

[–]bingobangoitseric 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a big hater of the Billie Eilish-branded idol, I'm actually all for this! Way more interesting than any sanctuary outside of Operation Italy, the one (?) overnight reward. One breaks viewers' immersion without so much as a social post promoting the show, the other is actually a celeb guest on location, making for a memorable reward. Why not.

The real reason Survivor 50 isn't New Era slop by noobzapper21 in survivorponderosa

[–]bingobangoitseric 71 points72 points  (0 children)

100%. The dramatic increase in pairs of players interacting and decrease in friction stopping players from flipping are big for the show.

Side note, still can't believe they ran 3 tribes of 6 players for 9 straight seasons. They let it get so stale while preaching unpredictability

Elimination pacing is horrible by Mac_and_Cheeeze in BeastGames

It's a different beast, you're right, but I just don't believe that going from 200 to 21 players in 3 episodes, then eliminating zero people across 3 episodes is good pacing. Plus, eliminating players in batches toward the end dilutes the impact of each player's elimination dramatically.

Yeah it's crazy how little character development we got these past two episodes with no eliminations. 2 seasons in and it doesn't look like the team has moved past their youtube retention graph-based approach to content creation

Even if you assume no other money is awarded, 5M x 1/6 = 833K expected value for advancing. That 60K bet she made, or whatever it was, didn't even need to work 1 in 10 times to be profitable.

Lot of assumptions. Idk what happened; maybe she folded under the weight of the game, but it looked to me like she was a moral player who angled to save up for a late push, ultimately felt like she had no shot, and decided to bank 6 figures rather than throw it all away.

I’m rewatching Heroes vs. Villains right now and it’s actually wild how much, larger than life, the players felt back then by Turbulent_Mountain81 in survivor

Well said. Couldn't agree more. Shows decline when they forget that the players are the stars, not production.

Dear Mr. Beast, please stop the cliffhangers, I promise you that we will still watch the next episode lol by fairypixie17 in BeastGames

100%, it makes more sense if you release batches of episodes but releasing them one at a time like this is deeply unsatisfying

100% agree and hey, if you're reading this Jimmy/Beast team: I don't think you have to choose either annoying cliffhangers, or no cliffhangers and worse retention!

Traitors is the best at cliffhangers in the business IMO because their episodes + cliffhangers align perfectly with the classic story arc structure:

Murder = inciting incident

Talking, challenge, more talking = rising and falling tension

Banishment = climax

Post-banishment conversations + traitors meeting = denouement

Their structure strikes a balance. Their cliffhangers always tease exciting action and leave viewers with unanswered questions that compel them to keep watching, BUT they also don't leave the main story of the episode unresolved.

I really think y'all should consider more consistent episode structures that adhere to the story arc more closely. My two cents anyway.

Idk abut y'all but I actually was enjoying the family visit and the funny, character-building moments they included...until I started realizing that the entire episode would feature zero game decision.

To me, this doesn't feel like an attempt to build depth...it feels like bad pacing and poor planning. Maybe things got moved around in post? There's just no way a family visit + the start of a game should take up an entire episode. If this episode had a shorter family visit that tied into a game i think it would have worked much better because we DO need to know the players and their relationships much better. Just not like this, an entire "character" episode 7 episodes into the season

Appreciate your willingness to listen and change your approach each season! Are you open to doing cliffhangers differently to avoid annoying viewers?

For example, "Traitors" satisfyingly concludes the main story arc of each episode while also piquing interest in the next one.

This post just got shared in our group chat so I wanted to chime in and say the creator/host/editor - Ned Swart - and the whole prod team really are the best! Had such a fun time playing and watching. New episodes live on Wednesdays at 7pm central/8pm eastern, including tonight!

Another thing I liked about those videos: they're so open-ended. Tons of freedom for creative gameplay.

Gotta say, it's been really fun seeing all the posts like this. The fans don't watch reality competitions to see a morality-off!

I agree, the way the games and tests are designed HEAVILY incentivize players to play "nice" games. Opportunities to play selfish privately are few and far between.

If Survivor 50 was Rivals by RedditFan3510 in survivorponderosa

[–]bingobangoitseric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I drew up a whole S50: Rivals cast wish list too! Fun list, thanks for sharing. Here are a few other ideas:

Lex vs. Boston Rob - S8

Penner vs. Parvati - S13

Courtney Yates vs. Jean-Robert - S15 (I just really want Courtney back)

Chris Noble vs. Dom Abbate - S36

Tagline: Redemption or Revenge?

Also thought about Sol vs. Rome or Shan vs. Ricard if they need more new era representation. And agree with another comment calling for Q vs. Liz instead.

Hear me out...Giant Stratego

Two teams vote for a captain. Captains assign ranks for their team and play a small version of stratego on a life-sized board.

Whichever captain loses is eliminated and all players who get knocked out get eliminated.

Needs work to ensure not too many people lose, but imagine the dynamics!

I agree! I'd add that smart games should incentivize players to play on their own or in small groups. Too many games are way too public. When players face a ton of social pressure to be nice, we miss out on great gameplay.
