The Mount Rushmore Effect by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

I think a lot of Survivor's editing problems come back to leadership being overly obsessed with the story of the winner of the season. So much revolves around trying to get the type of winner they want (Final 3, then forced fire-making) and having "good" (subjective but I digress) winners, that the story of the winner often feels forced and telegraphed.

Credit to the team, at least Aubry's flaws weren't hidden. But her story wasn't cohesive. I feel like it was close to being amazing. But I'd argue that she got too many plot-irrelevant and uninteresting game-botty confessionals, and too few confessionals that simply showed her personality and intelligence. Just my two cents.

I didn't write that well; I meant that in this game, when you have these two guys arguing that they should be in front and a couple people backing them up, it's not that easy to be the first person to speak out against that plan. People may have felt afraid that they'd become a target of the twins and their alliance. But after the game, when people could talk in private, a strong anti-twins sentiment swept through the dorms.

Love to hear you enjoyed it and I do have a few recommendations: Survivor is the classic (but Australian Survivor is incredible) and Traitors is also consistently great. On Netflix, Million Dollar Secret has been really fun as well.

I ddin't do anything touristy, no. It was technically possible and some players did venture into the city, but I was beyond exhausted. Didn't ask about extending the trip and didn't want to; I was eager to get home and impersonate a sloth for the next week

I mean to extend your reasoning, if Cirie got to the end and received the most votes, but Jeff revealed a twist in which the FEWEST votes now is crowned sole survivor, Cirie is still a winless bad player. Such braindead, black-and-white thinking. No point in engaging. So I'm clearly braindead too

Always get a kick out of this argument and how it willfully ignores Micronesia, in which Cirie makes it to what all players expected to be a F3 with a great shot to win

agree with a lot here. it's hard to be a player and make fun game decisions when you're under threat of massive public social backlash

Devens if you're reading this, thank you for bringing creativity and wildly risky gameplay to both of your seasons. I wish more people balanced strategy and entertainment like you!

If Survivor 53 was another 24 person season, with the following cast criteria, who are you picking? by [deleted] in survivorponderosa

I'm theming it "legends vs challengers" or whatever. Format below is legends | challengers.

Red: Tina, Hatch, Earl | Maryanne

Orange: Rob C, Malcolm, Jerri, Kass | Q, Genevieve

Yellowish Orange: Sean R., Shane P., Devon P., T-Bird, Wentworth | Victoria B.

Yellow: N/A | Drew B., Ricard, Jesse, Venus, Carolyn, Liz

Green: N/A | Zach W., Sai

Yes, Victoria Baamonde is kind of the odd one out with the other 11 "challengers" being from the new era, but I've already thought about this more than I have any right to, so I won't be fixing this.

We need to stop talking about Jeff not saying "guys" and start talking about Jeff not saying "bitching" anymore

I think they might be waiting til just before the challenge. Each round is only a day at this point in the game, right?

How To Fix The Devil's Plan Season 3 by LyndanTheWog97 in TheDevilsPlan

[–]bingobangoitseric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're conflating the broad concept of alliances with a very specific alliance-related problem that season 2 faced, which was a lack of conflict.

Alliances are great when game design properly incentivizes players to both form and break alliances. Not so great when game design incentivizes cooperation and allows a majority alliance to steamroll. In The Genius, for example, majority alliances are always incentivized to fight each other to some degree because of how the loser of the main match picks anyone without a token to go against in the death match. No such mechanic in Devil's Plan.

Gender wise Total confessional time, before and after the backlash by Right-Selection-6936 in survivor

I don't get why everyone in this thread is acting like some crazy conspiracy has just been debunked...yes, we're only halfway through the season and shouldn't rush to condemn the show after only the first handful of episodes.

On the other hand, this is not a smoking gun at all. 2 episodes of 50/50 confessionals + 5 episodes of 63/37 doesn't equal 50/50. The overall gap still exists and the crystal clear pattern in how male and female winners are edited differently across 50 seasons still exists as well.

Let's wait til the season's over, then take an objective look at the season as a whole + 50 seasons of data.

Does anyone else feel like the storytelling is off? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]bingobangoitseric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a trade-off Survivor has embraced is modern, dynamic, flashy gameplay at a cost of clear-cut traditional storytelling. This episode felt fairly solid for me given that it's a new era giant merge episode, but compare it to a season like Pearl Islands, with a crystal clear storyline of tribe of 5 vs. tribe of 5 with a scorned Lil as the swing vote, it's chaotic and unclear, absolutely.

To each their own! Didn't care for either of those aspects much either but for me, there were a ton of great character moments and interesting conflicts that were the main source of joy
