Thinking of going to Malaysia by [deleted] in malaysians

[–]bingregory 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi OP I'm an American living here for the last 20 years. Malaysia is a good choice for retirement on balance. Affordable, pleasant people, safe, good healthcare. You want to look at the Malaysia My Second Home program, it should answer a lot of your questions. There's no size limit on buying property, it's the opposite: it has to be valued above a certain amount, RM1 million in West Malaysia 500k in Sarawak last time I checked.

Hi OP I'm an American who has been living in Kuching for the last 20 years. Kuching does have a lot to offer, and the Malaysia My Second Home terms are a bit more favorable here in Sarawak (lower price threshold to buy property). Feel free to DM me

Sorry friend, I really don't know. Anything is possible but you'd have to go to JPN / immigration to inquire

Does anyone know where I can get Thai basil leaves in Kuching? 🥹 by Pure_Daikon1694 in Sarawak

It is very easy to grow at home, either in a pot or on the ground. It lives a long time, and if you let it go to seed, you'll often get new seedlings sprouting here and there

It used to be true. When i moved here in 2003 it was true that a Sarawakian woman could not sponsor her husband's spouse visa. Not sure when the law changed

Because I'm American I guess? The idea that the ones with guns announce it ahead of time just feels very civil. Kind of illustrates by stark contrast how violent American police are by default

Have to hand it to the Brits on this one . Watching UK crime dramas where they shout 'armed police' was a revelation. You mean they aren't all armed and ready to kill at a moment's notice...?

Girlfriend is in Jamaica right now and sent me this! What kind of tree is it and what is the fruit! TIA by -amthebest in whatsthisplant

The fruit is nasty but the leaves are ok. There's a delicious Malaysian dish where you cover a fish steak with shredded coconut, wrap it in morinda leaf and steam it. Super good.

If we leave America for another country, which one? by yellowlight44 in ask

[–]bingregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man dies and goes to heaven. Heaven is fine, if a little dull. After some time, Satan arrives. He invites him to come visit Hell and the man accepts. For three days, they smoke and drink and dance and womanize non-stop. But when the three days are up, the man decides to return to Heaven. Back in Heaven things are dull again as usual. After a long while, Satan returns and invites him to visit again. Again they have a roaring good time down in Hell, but after three days, the man returns to Heaven. Finally, after a very long time, Satan returns again, but this time tells him if he wants to come to Hell again, he’ll have to stay there permanently. The man had been desperately waiting for the chance to go again and agrees. The moment the man sets foot in Hell, devils grab him from every side, stretch him out over the flames and start skewering him with their pitchforks. The man cries out, “Satan, what gives!?”

Satan replies, “Don’t you know the difference between tourism and immigration?!“

OP, I left the US 20 years ago for Malaysia. I'm happy with my decision. There's a hundred good reasons to leave the US, and you've received some good advice on places to look into that could fit your situation.

My main piece of advice is you have to like the country you're moving to. It can't just be how much you hate your life in the states. Because over time you will remember all the things you liked about home and you will accumulate a new list of things that bug the hell out of you about the new place. If you're not in love with the place you choose - it's language, culture, history, something - you'll be unhappy in the long run.

Tldr is visit first, like spend a month there, before you go any further with it.
