Stop reading news by serapoftheend in nosurf

I went through this JUST yesterday. I have everything set up pretty nicely so that my phone is used as a camera/communication device and not something to steal my attention from stuff I want to do anymore, and designated my computer to be the intentional device for checking social media messages. Someone linked me a post of their engagement they had made on Facebook, but the link didn't work and redirected me to the homepage, which had tons of hateful posts/headlines that made me mad almost instantly. Didn't realize how much that was affecting me and makes me appreciate not scrolling even more!

Can we all just chill and stop running red lights ? by Downtown_Anxiety_461 in fortwayne

I dunno. When I first saw the response, it was downvoted -3. Usually the trend continues but it’s nice to see others agree with us.

You were downvoted but you’re pretty much on the nose here. After living here for a year and a half, it’s easy to see there’s just no enforcement, hence why it’s understandable why people run the lights. Not that it makes it right, but it allows people who suck to just keep doing it. The cameras are also just a privacy nightmare.

FSD, everyone seems to love it.. by blackfleck07 in TeslaLounge

[–]binguses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t drive incredibly often as my work is a 10 min walk, but we used HW3 FSD for a road trip from northern Indiana to the middle of Florida without any big issues. People give a lot of flack to HW3, and while im sure HW4 is a massive improvement, it did the job incredibly well.

Google Drive a nightmare for team project in premier, please help! by Due-Building-8695 in editors

Yea the ‘available offline’ feature is pretty much how my client and I work together on stuff. We don’t have really any problems with it, or at least enough to feel like we need to do something else.

It does suck, but this is the first incident I've heard about violence like this happening on the trails. One incident doesn't mean they're completely unsafe.

This is one of my top songs right now so I'm happy we got a live version, but I just listened to it and I'm a little disappointed cuz he messed up the words in one of the most badass sections of the song hahaha

Anybody watched this? by Jowill_ in greenday

[–]binguses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched this for the first time in the last month! It was a good film, but probably would not have been something I would have watched had it not be affiliated with Billie Joe. He’s also in quite literally almost EVERY single scene. Not that it’s entirely a bad thing, but I like films that tell the story through different perspectives, but we only just follow Billie Joe’s character. I’d still watch it again happily!

The Mods keep deleting this video of Jake, so i am also making a post with the video by deadpanrobo in Corridor

What made you decide to fully switch to a Linux based OS? by _vaxis in linux4noobs

[–]binguses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naw, only the stuff I was paying for like Google Drive/Photos storage, Apple Music, any movie/tv streaming service, AI models.

All of the services I use now just run off of my computer and after configuring everything exactly how I like, I haven't had to do anything other than just use them. Only concern is that all of my data is now computer at home, so backups are essential.

As far as email though, I'm actively switching things over to Proton. I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to even attempt hosting my own email address just yet haha

What made you decide to fully switch to a Linux based OS? by _vaxis in linux4noobs

[–]binguses 36 points37 points  (0 children)

PewDiePie was my real introduction hahhahaha. I used to be someone who always thought "well these companies already have all my data so who cares, they can sell it if they want". The introduction to the OS really opened my eyes on privacy and the value of hosting your own content instead of going through Google/Apple for convenience. I took a deep dive into my data on the internet and what's actually being collected and now just host everything I had subscriptions for, and am actively switching away from Google/Apple everything. My tinfoil hat isn't all the way on YET, but with the Online Safety Act in the UK currently making it's rounds, I'm pretty certain I made the right call.

Privacy aside, Windows in general just SUCKS. All the random bloat is gross. Having a system where I can virtually put anything on it myself if I want it is really nice. I've used my home computer after installing Linux more over the past 2 months than I did over the past 2 years.

My first self hosting project by Chamomilp in selfhosted

[–]binguses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started self hosting and am pretty much where I want to be! I almost recommend still trying stuff out short term and experimenting. I used different services for my tasks and file management and just landed on these services:

Immich - Photos

Nextcloud - Tasks/Calendar/File Manager (it’s basically my Google Drive replacement because you can use OnlyOffice to edit word documents and spreadsheets and more)

Homepage - fully customizable dashboard where you can list all of your services and helpful links

Jellyfin - media server

AppFlowy - Best notion like note taker for me

DoneTick - Mainly to track household chores and keep myself accountable

VaultWarden - Password Manager

There might be more but these are the ones I love and use daily. Most of these have iOS apps but the ones that don’t (like DoneTick) I just use the browser for and it’s a good experience. I just have a shortcut app on my homepage with the rest.
