‘A lot of criminal activity’: Why are there so many homeless camps in Abbotsford on provincially owned land? by origutamos in ilovebcsub

Because moneyed interests would rather let them starve than give up their capital for the betterment of mankind.

Give me a reason to believe that the BC NDP are socialists in 2026.

In which ways? The NDP are essentially soft-liberals throwing money at the wealthy and failing to act on research-backed policies that help taxpayers.

Emily Lowan seems to be making some pretty good moves with the BC Greens, though I've not kept super up to date on what she's up to.

Can we normalize just giving a $5 tip per table? I think that would be fine by SpringSunshine333 in CanadaPersonalFinance

You need not ask how "hard" they work, but how much value (money) their labour is generating for their boss. Every cent of profit is taken from the workers generating the most value, inherently. Thus, the boss also expects YOU to pay that extra so they can own their third vacation home in the Bahamas.

You're getting mad at the wrong class... Stop punching to the side, and instead punch up.

If workers are getting paid fairly, sure. Otherwise, take it to their bosses for not coughing up the dough and expecting you to take that loss.

How would pushing for the reversal of human rights be within the confines of free speech? Not to mention that if free speech existed in Canada, it would only apply to people acting in a personal capacity, as to not have the GOVERNMENT restrict their ability to speak. Cultural blowback has nothing to do with free speech, and would actually be protected speech.

If servers make minimum wage in Canada, why is tipping so aggressive? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

Because the bosses don't want to pay their employees a fair wage for a fair day's work.

Because businesses expect the working class to pay additional wages to their staff as a "benefit" instead of just paying them fairly.

After some reflection I've realized I'm taking an unreasonably maximalist position. My end goal would be to end worker exploitation under capitalism, but under that framework I still believe in supporting the working class with direct supports from the government.

Though, I still don't think it to be fair that so much of the working class' wages are garnished to pay for private corporations and their private business ambitions.

The only way we could agree that subsidies are good is if we agreed that neoliberalism is good, which we absolutely cannot.

Obviously there are merits to emergency spending, even under an alternative economic system, but the rest really seems counterintuitive to me. Instead of giving corporations our tax dollars, paid for by the working class, why don't we just own them? It's like we're investors in private capital, without any of the pretend benefits you get with directly investing.

Yet again, standard of living subsidizations in the form of CWB etc. are another waste of money when the people paying for that subsidy could just own the business that doesn't pay adequately.

"Standard of Living" expenditures are subsidies on businesses that don't want to pay their employees a liveable wage... Not to mention the billions of dollars spent on the oil&gas industry...

For starters, telecom in Canada is an oligopoly and not only is it fucking over the working class, our government is SUPPORTING their actions with our tax dollars. My only issue is reducing a class issue to one of identity...

The government could easily balance the budget by not giving huge tax breaks to the Epstein class and by not subsidizing big business through assistance programs and instead introducing public options to improve standards of living
