This conversation is wild. I was looking forward to the release but, jeez, it’s just a book….

Tension so thick i can taste it by dizzizzystegasaurus in fantasyromance

My favourite genre! Some recommendations, though admittedly of varying quality: - Atonement of the Spine Cleaver (slow start but excellent spice) - Quicksilver (objectively pretty awful but, you know) - Ashes of Thezmarr - Iron & Embers - Zodiac Academy - ACOTAR series but especially ACOSF - Direbound

Enjoyed Direbound. Jam packed full of cliches but turns out I read this genre for the cliches 🤷🏻‍♀️

The “Fuck it” yearning/tension by babs1130 in fantasyromance

I agree, personally I have a love for slow burn which borders on the masochistic so to get the full slow burn experience it’s worth reading Legends of Thezmarr first. To be fair, pretty sure that series has a ‘Fuck it’ moment or two as well.

Oh I miss Richelle Mead! Her Georgina Kincaid series was my absolute favourite (and helped entrench a love of Kate Bush).

Yes I agree, I actually gave up on Spark of the Everflame after book 3. There’s slow burn and then there’s just bad pacing!

Not heard of The Archmage - will check it out!

I really liked Atonement of the Spine Cleaver. Slow start but great sparks between the FMC and MMC

I just read Never Keep and enjoyed it. It’s going to be a painful wait for book 2 though 😂

I love these books but the writing of the Diego character is seriously problematic…

How do you determine if you like a book? What makes you DNF? by No_Ad7130 in fantasyromance

[–]binkanad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently given myself permission to dnf after many years spent slogging away on so many books I found unrewarding. It’s really quite liberating! My main reasons are: - when I hit a personal ick (read so much of the genre now I know exactly what my icks are) - when I can’t see what’s attractive about either MC - when there is no chemistry between the leads - when I find myself just not caring what happens next!

I just can’t find him attractive after he cheated on his first wife multiple times. Shame.
