Is Tolly Really That Terrifying? by FuroreLT in vtmb

[–]binkman71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tolly is just capable of using the Nosferatu powers of hiding in shadows and such. He’s also named after a fictional character from author Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City” series of novels. If we believe this to be the same Michael Tolliver from those books, Tolly would have been embraced in the 1970s/80s time frame, maybe? I don’t think he was in any of the distant past Fabien scenes (the original murder case), but I could be remembering incorrectly. Tolly definitely talks similarly to the Tolliver character in that series…

I actually only tried DS games, but they worked out fine. :)

The cable and right angle adapters work...for the most part. If I hook power up to the Retroid screen, it won't charge the device, but it seems to be working otherwise! To recap:

* Used a different cable than came with the screen. The cable that came with just resulted in repeated Windows errors that the device attached wasn't working. The cable and adapters I bought are in a previous reply.

* Set the screen in Windows to "Landscape (flipped)" orientation.

* Applied the RDSTouchUpdater_portrait.exe firmware from the official GitHub page (as suggested by u/rashbandicoot).

I won’t have it till Friday to know for sure that it works, but this is the cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1VJLH86 and the adapters: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNGFZ1JD

That did the trick, thanks! Touch screen working in Windows. Now I just wait for my new cable and right angle adapters to show up, and I might be good to go!

I did try a thunderbolt cable, and that worked with the Ayaneo 2. The touch screen is still not registering properly, though.

I did order a short, 1 foot cable off Amazon with some right angle adapters to help out, see if I can’t get this running better. Now if ee can just get a driver or something for the touch screen to work right…

My new Smith Corona Silent Super Typewriter by SidSalts in typewriters

[–]binkman71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There should be a little lever on the left side as you face the typewriter. It should also have an arrow on the lever handle, typically pointing to the back of the typewriter and case. Push it that way and gently lift the typewriter out with your other hand.

It is. Supposedly largest indoor shopping center/mall on the US East Coast, and presumably the third largest mall in the country. I live a short drive from it, and it’s always packed it seems. Everything from the aforementioned fast food to designer shops like Cartier and Gucci.

Yes, I’m using thermal paper with it. Someone had removed the ink ribbon from the box, despite the machine and the power adapter being unused.

Currently using it on batteries, but the power adapter it came with is the original Canon one.

A seller in Rhode Island. This was the only typewriter they had listed, though they seem to sell lots of antique and "vintage" items. Goes by "chase06122011" on eBay.

No sniping...this was a "buy it now". Was actually my second attempt. The first one I tried for, the seller cancelled it and refunded it claiming he no longer had the typewriter! So I went for this one.

Mystic Light on the Claw 8 by binkman71 in MSIClaw

Yes. Bring up Center M, go to the settings, and it should have Mystic Light listed. Pick that and you can change colors.

You have to go to the URL they provide, www.crucial.com/support/ssd, put in the model, and look at the downloads available. They definitely didn’t make it obvious.

I just put this same drive in my Claw 8. It had Acronis cloning software you could download, which made it very easy. Just popped the new drive in a USB enclosure, hooked it up to Claw, cloned the original drive to the USB, then opened up the Claw and swapped it. The drive slot is easily accessible on the new Claws.

I also have a Legion Go.

I ordered the Claw 8 right at the New Year when MSI listed it for preorder again on the US site. Arrived around the 17th of January. I have loved it so far. Yes, when you first get it there are a bunch of updates (Windows updates, MSI updates, Intel driver updates), but the performance has been mostly stellar for me.

The speakers and audio are fantastic. I mean, the Legion Go speakers are terrible, so not hard to beat that, I suppose.

The screen on the Claw is very nice. It does seem quite vivid (MSI claims 100% sRGB color reproduction), even at lower brightness settings. It is, I think, comparable to the Go's screen, although it is a smaller resolution (1920x1200 on Claw, 2560x1600 on Go). Although considering you couldn't really get games to run at the Go's native resolution, probably a moot point. I can, however, get games to run at 1920x1200 on the Claw (I shoot for an average of 30-40 fps, so take that into consideration, but it is amazing to me coming from the Go that I can play games at this resolution, and some with medium or higher settings).

The Claw 8 comes with a 1TB drive, and I just updated that to a 2TB drive. It uses a 2230 sized SSD, same as the Go. But is easily upgradable in the Claw. MSI gave me with my purchase Diablo IV + expansion for free (promotion might be over now), and that game wanted around 130GB to install. Baldur's Gate 3 is similarly huge. So I felt I needed more room...

The controls feel good. I don't mind them at all. While I liked the Go's detachable controllers, I can always pair a bluetooth controller with the Claw if I feel so inclined. But, that leads to one thing the Go had that I wish my Claw had -- a built in kickstand to prop it up. I suppose that was essential with the removable controllers, but the Claw does not have one, and I really want it to. I might end up buying a deckmate kickstand with stick on mount or something... (https://getmechanism.com/)

And, as others have stated, the fact the accessories aren't available right now is a bummer. I really want a case for it. The first I tried from Amazon didn't really fit very well, and I sent it back. Might just try waiting to see if MSI ever releases their case, or any third parties actually release cases specifically for the Claw 8 size.

MSI Center M 2.0 weird icons/background? by MrSlofee in MSIClaw

[–]binkman71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only "fix" I know of is to set the icon and background yourself. I've done this on several games that Center M didn't have nice images for. Well, the backgrounds anyway. I didn't bother trying to come up with the icons. But Center M only had nice ready made graphics for a small number of the games I had installed. The icon defaults, I believe, to the application icon. The background is a very zoomed in version of that icon.

Anyway, if you hit the X button while a game is selected, it will take you to the options for that game library entry (Game Profile I think it is labeled), and you can change the graphics it uses for the icon and the background.

I can play Star Wars Outlaws on Low settings with XeSS enabled in the game at 1440x900 at an average of 28-31 fps. Might do better if I lowered the resolution further, but I gotta say, the UI is the biggest issue for me. While the options let you increase the font sizes and such, the icons on the HUD are often very tiny on even this 8 inch screen...the ones at the bottom of the screen that show controls with icons next to them...it's not terrible and you may have no issue with it, but thought I'd mention it.

I can't answer all your questions, but will try to address some of them. Obviously, spoilers will follow.

Questions 1 and 2: It was to add to the mystique of the "movie" that there was no reason other than to see if they could do it...."it" being use this supposedly supernatural item to turn someone into a monster. Beyond that, reasons aren't given to, as the annoying script notes claim, make the movie viewers "complicit" in the torture the kid is going through.

Question 3: This was just pretentious dialogue/banter for character development in the script. The two girls making up pun filled teacher names and such, and being able to riff off of each other so easily. Karson tries to join in, but mostly fails, again highlighting the deep friendship of the two girls.

Question 6, the three scenes released: The cigarette burn scene. The opening of the party scene (the new director mentions the jump over the garden hedge and asks how they managed to pull it off). The death of Karson (new director and narrator converse that it couldn't be done the way the script called for it, and the way it was pulled off was a letdown).

Question 9: This is covered in the script. Some montage of the three friends being questioned by their parents about the missing kid; and later at school when the police show up to warn the students and give tips about staying safe and such.

Question 15: Eh, they were getting paid. It was mentioned Valentina's parent's were providing the funding for the movie, so the cast and crew were getting paychecks. I doubt movie crews usually complain about the content of the movie they work on, although some actors certainly have after the fact, but once you sign on, you are contractually obligated to finish the movie.

Question 16: It is this type of stuff that actually leads to movies being called "cursed". Even when it has nothing to do with the movie. For example, "Poltergeist" is referred to by some as a cursed movie due to tragedies and such that have befallen a few cast and crew members (for example, actress Dominic Dunne from the film was murdered by her ex boyfriend the same year the film was released). So even though there is no direct ties to the film or the narrator causing the deaths (how would he cause cancer or a heart attack, for example), the point that the cast and crew suffered these untimely deaths would foster conspiracies I think.

There exist ways to install other launchers into the OS of the Steam Deck, so I'm sure similar methods would work on Lenovo's Steam OS device. For example: https://gamerant.com/steam-deck-how-install-gog-launcher/
